Vokey Spin Milled 60
A couple of years ago I had a Vokey Oil Can lob wedge which I loved. After it got ripped off I replaced it with a Hogan wedge and now a Mizuno. I liked the Oil Can, but not quite enough to replace it with another one. Not the case with the Vokey Spin Milled.
Technology
The Vokey Spin Milled are wedges which have the grooves milled out of the 8620 mild carbon steel face by a computer controlled milling machine. The main grooves are not the only milling, there are even smaller grooves milled into the rest of the club face by a circular cutting tool (see picture #2). I’ve covered this type of face milling a couple of times before on the MacGregor Vfoil irons and the Eidolon V-Sole wedges. There’s a milling pattern which is only a few thousandths of an inch in the face which gives the player even more spin and control over his shots. The combination of the main grooves and the fine milling of the face result in a contact area 30% greater than regular wegdges. More contact area means more feel, more spin, more control.
Stopped by the Golf Babes Blog and saw this post on the new Natalie Gulbis 2007 calendar. Hmmm with all the talk about how the LPGA can sell more tix and generate more revenue I can’t help thinking this is one avenue. Oh but then again I don’t think the general public would want to see all of the LPGA players in sexy skimpy bikinis…
Doing this post made me decide to check out Natlie’s site since I probably haven’t been there since the 2006 calendar came out. Yes, just like last year it looks cool but has way too much flash animation.
It’s interesting to see what search terms people use to find posts. “Natalie Gulbis Nude” or “Natalie Gulbis Naked” or “Tiger Woods’ wife Elin naked” etc. There are some sick puppies out there. If I wanted to get a bunch more traffic I guess I’d post those terms… Oh, wait a sec… I just did hehe. 😉
I’ll have to put a list together of some of the really bizarre search terms one of these days for some pure entertainment.
UPDATE: I just went back to the Golf Babes Blog. Heh, I couldn’t resist I guess. I’m looking at these beautiful women and thinking to myself “where the hell are these women when I’m golfing?” They’re not on the course. The only scantily clad people I see on the course are guys like this:
Alternate title: Ogio Monster Travel Bag Review
When it comes to the design and functionality of golf bags, backpacks and many other types of sporting bags, Ogio is arguably the most creative, progressive and hip company. I own several Ogio golf bags and I’ve been thrilled with the style, features and durability they all possess.
No more soft travel bags for me
As my blogging and golf web endeavors grow and I do more and more course reviews, my need for a good golf travel bag has become imperative. A couple of years ago Delta Airlines destroyed one of my golf bags. When I tried to make my claim to get them to reimburse me for the damages Delta refused to pay, sighting new airline policies that they weren’t covering damages to golf clubs anymore. I fought Delta and actually won because their new policy didn’t spell out that damage to golf bags wasn’t covered.
At that point I realized how expensive a mishap at the airline baggage center could be:
$500.00 driver
$799.00 3W
$250.00 Hybrid
$1200.00 Irons
$600 worth of wedges
and a priceless putter.
Total: $3349.00+
If an airline were to trash my entire set of clubs I could be looking at close to a $3500.00 hit, not to mention the inconvenience of assembling a set that has taken me 2 years to put together. Given those thoughts I knew I’d used a soft golf bag for air travel for the last time. It was time to protect that $3K+ investment.
Another day in NYC and I’m walking around trying not to blink in case I miss something. Today I saw my first Picasso in person. There about 15 Picassos, along with tens of thousands of amazing pieces of art at the Metropolitan Museum Of Art.
Tonight I hooked up with two good buddies at the Blue Note in NYC to see the Dizzie Gillespie all star band. I enjoyed that show with my pal Andrew who moved to NYC from Salt Lake a few months ago, and fellow golf blogger and buddy Jay Flemma. What a great time.
Tomorrow I head home. A full day of trains and planes.
Still on vacation, but here’s a photo for you from New York City:
I took this photo tonight from the top of Rockefeller Center. The Empire State Building is the tallest orange one and left of that you can see the Brooklyn bridge.
