This one has been a nice review to work on.  Though it has been a moderately mild winter in terms of snow here, it has still been plenty cold. I’ve been enjoying my new Coast Apparel French Terry Crew Neck Sweater.

Details

This is a cotton blend sweater, 55% cotton and 45% polyester.  Thanks to the poly portion it keeps its shape, is easy care, doesn’t wrinkle easily, and doesn’t shrink.

The cuff and collar are rib knitted with spandex, which helps them flex and keep their shape.

The chest features an embroidered crab logo.

The sleeves are raglan style. They continue in one piece up to the neck without a shoulder seam.

On The Course – On The Town

I’ve only logged three golf rounds this calendar year. It’s early.  I had this sweater in play in the last rough, walking on a very hilly course in 46 degree temperatures. It kept me so warm that a couple of times I had to take it off. I was generating a lot of heat walking. One reason to walk and not ride golf carts in cold temperatures.

During the golf swing the sweater stays comfortable and doesn’t stretch or pull, or resist my golf swing. That’s a big deal.

I really dig the looks and style of this sweater, and wear it regularly at the office as well as on the course. Below you can see it paired with the Coast Apparel Khaki Beach Pants (review coming soon).

The fit does run a bit small, so keep that in mind if you’re thinking of getting one.

Conclusion

This is my first Coast Apparel review of hopefully many to come in the future. I love the quality, style and comfort.

Golf sweaters can run up to several hundred dollars.  The French Terry Crew Neck Sweater, at a mere $39, is a tap-in birdie.

Update: I mentioned that winter has been mild… but in the course of the day today we just got hammered with about 10 inches of snow. Glad I have this sweater to keep warm while waiting for the snow to melt.

Golf Gum – Chew Gum and Lower Your Scores

Every year new golf products arrive here at Hog World Headquarters that make me say, “now I’ve seen everything.” I have seen everything, yet again.

Golf Gum is different kind of focus product. Instead of drinking a liquid, or eating some kind of energy bar, the golfer chomps on gum.

Inside

Inside Golf Gum is 80mg of caffeine, a little less than is in a normal cup of coffee. The caffeine helps the golfer focus, or stay awake if there was a previous night of partying.

Golf Gum also contains B-vitamins. These nutrients help the body convert food into fuel. This helps sustain energy level throughout the day.

On The Course

I have not yet tested out Golf Gum on the course.  It is a bit of bad timing.  On doctor’s suggestion I had to cut some things from my diet, one being caffeine. So I’m posting this out of a bit of a courtesy to the folks at Golf Gum, who sent me the samples.  I will definitely give the golf gum a shot if the doc gives me the thumbs up.

Perhaps this spring I’ll give out some golf gum to my golf pals.  If they beat me we’ll know it really works.

Spring can’t come fast enough. I’m anxious to try out the new LARS Jacket from Galvin Green, part of their “Interface” product line. Behold.

Here’s a description of the LARS from Galvin Green:

New 2,5-layer short sleeved full-zip jacket in INTERFACE-1™ fabric which is totally windproof, water repellent and highly breathable. Combines a tight-knit Polyester outer layer with a polyurethane membrane and a soft comfortable inside.

This will be a perfect option for those times when long sleeves aren’t enough, but some protection from a slight chill, wind, or rain is needed.  Given the ultra-high quality I’ve come to expect from Galvin Green I have 100% confidence this will be a gamer.

Check out the back. It’s got a bit of an edge to it which I really dig.

Stay tuned for the full HOG review in a month or two.  The snow is melting, but not fast enough!

Think Inside the Box – Monthly Golf Goodie Subscription from iGC Box

Dollar Shave Club, Harry’s, Birch Box, Trunk Club, Lootcrate… the monthly goodie box for men concept is pretty hot right now.  But why get overpriced razors every month when you could get something really fun and useful, like golf balls and accessories?  That’s where iGC Box comes in.  Let’s take a look inside the box.

iGC Box

Inside my iGC Box are some nice golf goodies.  See below.

First and foremost is a half dozen high quality, urethane covered 3-piece balls.  That’s the same recipe one would find in “Tour” quality golf balls which can run $50-$60/dozen. I have NO desire to get a monthly subscription if the balls inside are “RockFlite” quality. The balls come inside a useful accessory bag which is great for the other small golf items one loses inside a big golf bag.

Along with the balls my box had some nice, long plastic tees.  I tee it high, so these are perfect for me.  Plus they’re much more durable than wood tees.

A nice full leather golf glove comes in iGC box, as well as an iGC ball marker.  Can’t have too many ball markers.  Most golfers have about 500 in their bags…

Last but certainly not least is a terrific little club brush, which is not even the size of a box of Tic-Tacs. There are three retractable parts: a metal brush, a plastic brush, and a pointed plastic groove cleaner.  This accessory is worth a month’s subscription price on its own. It’s so small it can live in the golfer’s pocket, ready for use whenever a quick club or groove cleaning is needed.  Clubs work their best when they’re clean and the grooves are not full of debris.

Subscriptions

There are two subscriptions available from iGC, year-round and seasonal.  Both subs are $19 and delivered monthly.  The yearly obviously comes every month through the year, while the seasonal is monthly between the months March through September.

Semi-Final Thoughts

I say “semi-final thoughts” because I’ll be covering another iGC box soon, which offers some other goodies, to give you the idea of the variance.

Think inside the box. iGC Box. With an iGC box landing on your doorstep every month you’ll have a solid pipeline of the most used and highest wear-and-tear items in your golf arsenal, balls, gloves and tees.

I’ve upped my beverage game. Everything looks better with a HOG logo on it!

What a piece of art.
