I’m heading out of the country today on a blogcation.  I’ll be off the grid until around September 1.

See you on the other side.

I bought a box of cereal just because Paul Azinger was on it?

I’m at the grocery store the other day picking up grub, so I can nourish and strengthen myself for good golf blogging.  With three food eating machines (teenagers) in the house, I usually get bulk or large bags of cereal.  But this time around I couldn’t resist buying a box of Post Cereal.  Why?  Because Paul Azinger was on the box.  It caught my eye in an isle with hundreds of cereal boxes.  Congratulations Post.  Your Zinger campaign has netted you one extra sale.

The images on this box are sort of funny.  I’m not sure if it is just the angle of the image or what, but Paul’s head looks a little over-sized.  This image shows what I’m talking about even more than the one above.

Apparently there’s some contest Post is having where you can win a golf trip, including a round with Paul Azinger.  So I bought the box thinking “what the hell?  It would be fun to golf with Paul Azinger and show him what a low draw looks like.”  Well, I accidentally threw away the box when I was done eating the cereal without entering the damn contest.  Oh shoot.  I’ll have to teach Zinger the low draw some other time.

Yes, you can note the items in my cart:  Milk (for the cereal), Paul Azinger Post Cereal and extra virgin olive oil.  Those are the three staples of life, right?

Would you lose $183,826.22 if you slept in?

I was going to write some golf blog posts today, but I slept in…

I like Jim Furyk.  He’s a gritty player (#3 in the world) and seems like a nice cat.  Apparently he made a little boo boo this week though.  He uses his cell phone for his alarm in the morning, but his battery died.  He missed his Wednesday morning pro-am tee time at the Barclays by five minutes.  That made him NE (not eligible) for the tournament.

Quick math

I did some quick math.  Furyk has made $3,308,872 in 18 tournaments this year.  That averages $183,826.22 per tournament.  So he arguably missed out on $183,826.22 based on those numbers.

I can’t imagine being in a situation where I’d lose $183,826.22 if I slept in.  The worst it is for me when I sleep in is that my automatic coffee has already shut off and I have cold coffee in the morning.

Coleman SkinSmart

I have a ton of Coleman gear, all of which is for my camping rig.  Ovens, lanterns, tents, coolers…  Now I have a Coleman product for my golf bag!

One of my three home courses is at a low point in the valley.  Several creeks and a river run through the course.  Most of the holes are very “swampy.”

With that much water and heavy vegetation, there are a ton of bugs and gazillions of mosquitoes.  Three rounds ago I apparently provided many insects a good dinner, and I had some nice itchy welts the next day.

I had forgotten that I put my new Coleman SkinSmart insect repellent in the bag previously, but after all the itching I remembered the next round at the swamp.

This Coleman repellent comes in a container not much thicker or bigger than a sharpie and stores easily in a golf bag.  Even better than the convenient size, is the fact that it has a squirt nozzle on the top.  This is very helpful for golfers.  I don’t want slippery hands from applying bug repellent and having to use my hands to spread it.  The repellent lasts for eight hours, just enough for an infuriating round at a muni course.

What does “deet free” mean?  I didn’t know until I did this piece.  Deet is short for Diethyl-meta-toluamide, which is the most common ingredient in insect repellents.  But deet can be harmful if ingested so deet-free is especially good for children.

Conclusion

The Coleman SkinSmart bug repellent is small, convenient, easy to apply and doesn’t interfere with good golf scores.  Add it to the “in the bag” list.
