HOG world headquarters

New digs...

There’s a lot of buzz about Tiger Woods’ new practice facility in his back yard.  3.5 acres, special grasses, bunkers, greens, bla bla bla.

Not to be outdone, I must announce that HOG World Headquarters is also in the midst of an upgrade in facility. Pictured are the new digs for Mr. and Mrs. HOG, as well as HOG’s secret lab (HOG Lab), the HOG offices, and HOG Central.  Pics of HOG Lab will be coming in a week or two.  Its where all the magic happens.

With that announcement, please note that my old address and phone will no longer be valid in a couple of weeks.  Email me or, the new contact info is here if you’re shipping stuff.

Honda Classic Thoughts

It was an entertaining weekend of golf, though I’d say that this week was probably the least exciting of this short PGA Tour year so far.  The winds kicked the asses of the pros, making us hacks feel a little better about dumping shots into water hazards.  Not sure I can remember seeing more balls go in the drink during a PGA Tour event than this weekend, except perhaps some windy rounds at the TPC Sawgrass.

Rory Sabbatini

Sabbatini wins Honda

Rory Sabbatini surprised me by following up a mega low 64 in 30mph winds with a 66 the next day.  Those mega low rounds and hot putting with his custom TaylorMade Ghost Putter, gave him enough of a margin to shoot an even par 70 and end up winning by one shot on Sunday.

As each week passes by I become a bigger and bigger fan of Y.E. Yang.  I thought perhaps we’d never see Yang again, after he beat Tiger in the PGA a couple of years ago.  But he is having a great year, and this week’s solo 2nd just adds to it.  He will be a big factor in the majors in 2011.  Mark it down.

Mo-Money leads after three rounds

Surprisingly Rory Sabbatini followed up the amazing low round of 64 on Friday with another great round Saturday, a 66.  Most players don’t follow up super low rounds with another one.  With all the other players struggling in the wind, “Mo Money” (remember the Tiger Woods’ garage commercial and Tiger’s head cover “Frank?”) Sabbatini has build up a huge five stroke lead at -9.  The nearest competitors to Rory are Gary Woodland, Y.E. Yang and Jerry Kelley.  The tournament is Mo-Money’s to win.

Much talk has been made of Sabbatini’s TaylorMade Ghost Putter which he has been putting lights out with.  For all you gear heads, the photo is to the right.  Click it to see a bigger version.

Sabbatini has been sporting a Greg Norman style hat for a while.  Many think it is a fashion statement, but the truth is that he had some skin cancer removed from his face and he needs to protect his face better.

Speaking of Jerry Kelley

I’ll admit I watched the Charlie Sheen broadcast, which sucked.

I got sucked into some of the humorous tweets and the #tigerblood comedy on twitter by Charlie Sheen.  I admit it.  Knowing a local guy who was funny and intelligent who got totally sucked into the world of drugs made me relate to it a bit.

Then I found out Sheen would be doing a live broadcast tonight on some web streaming site.  SO what the hell.  I tuned in.  The viewers started out at about 80K and bumped up to about 125K.  I tried to watch it for as long as I could but it was so boring I couldn’t watch anymore.  Sheen was there with three sidekicks who were trained to laugh when he laughed and say “winning” when he said winning.  They’re like little Sheen minions, or “Shinions.”  By the time I decided to bail, the viewers had dropped to 85K.  So there was a spike of curious people like me who came, saw, got bored and left.  As my buddy John said, “Sheen is losing viewers faster than he loses his kids.”

Charlie Sheen live webcast fail

Charlie Sheen's debut webcast sucked. #winning ? No. #fail ? Yes.

I’d hoped to see Sheen snort five feet of cocaine, or sacrifice a virgin, or do some sort of nutty circus act.  Instead the whole thing was an epic fail.  It was the sort of thing you could only be entertained by if you were stoned.  #fail #tigerblood #notfunny

The highlight of the broadcast happened just before I left, when Sheen said “We’re out of material.”  Yup.
