Honda Classic – Making the cut

The conditions at the Honda classic have been brutal.  There was a steady 25-30mph wind on Thursday and winds Friday were gusting up to 25.  Watching the best players in the world hit shots into lakes can at least make some of us hacks feel a little better.  Some players really blow up in the wind, so to speak, while others shine.  Who shined and who blew up?

Shined

Rookie Kyle Stanley leads at -6 with rounds of 68-66.  Having never been in this position before how will Kyle’s nerves hold up on the weekend?

Rory Sabbatini shot an unbelievable 64 in high winds yesterday, a whopping 8 strokes ahead of the field average.  He’s in 2nd place at -5.  Players almost never follow up a super low round with another one, so lets see what he does today.

Y.E. Yang is continuing his consistently good year, T8.  Ricky Barnes had some very cool pants yesterday which must have helped, 68 to reach T4.

A total of 12 players out of the field are under par, including world #2 Lee Westwood.  Lee can regain the #1 ranking with a win this week.

How to identify the new Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x balls

Every time Titleist changes to a new model of Pro V1 and Pro V1x they alter the ball slightly where the text on the ball says “Pro V1” or “Pro V1x.”  The text and aiming arrows, or what Titleist fancily calls A.I.M. for “Alignment Integrated Marking” for each model, vary slightly.

When you’re fishing balls out of the lake or the bushes, these photos of the Alignment Integrated Marking will tell you if you found one of the cool new Pro V1’s for 2011.

Pukka HeadwearI’m working in conjunction with my good pals at Pukka Headwear to make the first edition Hooked On Golf Blog / The Golf Space golf hats!  These will be great for giveaways, contests, fantasy golf etc.

I’ve just gone through the design and ordering process with my friends at Pukka, working on the customization of the hats and embroidery options.  It was a great experience.  Below is the final draft of the hats.

For those of you who are buyers for golf courses or corporations who want your branding on golf hats, I strongly recommend Pukka for your needs.  Of course I haven’t seen the final product yet, but having seen Pukka’s previous work at my local courses and at the PGA Show, I’m sure I won’t be disappointed.

Coming next month.

Stupid press quesions – Nicklaus on Tiger breaking his major record

Written by: Tony Korologos | Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

Time for another edition of “stupid golf press questions.”

Media scribes and blogs all over are going nuts and Tweeting their little fingers to the bone.  “Jack says Tiger will break his major record.  Jack says Tiger will break his major record….”  Rinse. Repeat. Retweet. Yawn.

Jack Nicklaus has said many times over the years that he thinks Tiger Woods will break his major tournament victory record.  Personally I think that major record is seriously in doubt right now based on how Tiger is playing.

But what kind of answer did the media expect yesterday when they asked Jack at the Honda for the trillionth time if he thought Tiger would break his major record?  Of course Jack is going to say yes.  Imagine for a minute if he said no!?!?!  If he said no, he’d be contradicting himself and the media would go completely apesh!t.

So everyone calm down, stop Tweeting and blogging this headline as if it is some sort of huge breaking news.  Set your mouse down and back away from the computer….
