Hats off and HOG salute to the USA. Happy birthday to the HOG home country. It may not be perfect, but there’s not a better country on this planet.
I’ve been known to partake on the golf course when it comes to cigars. In fact, HOG has done a lot of cigar and cigar accessory reviews for golfers. It’s tough work, reviewing fine cigars while golfing. I’m willing to take on the task.
I’m happy to feature a very fine magnetic cigar holder, perfect for golf carts or anywhere a magnet can find a friendly flat steel surface. Check out the aluminum, milled cigar holder by Ricky Johnson Putters.
In the photo above I have the cigar holder attached to the support beam of my golf cart roof. I’ve stuck the unit elsewhere as well, like on the front porch steel side table. It works great. The magnet is extremely strong and withstands high wind, bumps and all sorts of other abuse.
When not in use this nice ($70 nice!) milled aluminum cigar holder lives in its carrying bag with drawstring (below). I keep my holder ready to go in my golf bag at all times. Best be prepared.
Room For Improvement?
I’d love to see a Hooked on Golf Blog logo milled into one of these beauties. Custom logo would be a great offering.
Final Thoughts
The milled aluminum cigar holder from Ricky Johnson Putters is super classy, solid, attractive, useful, and convenient. Snag one and class up your golf cigar accessories. Snag one for the cigar aficionado in your friends list too.
The life of a golf blogger is exciting! Exotic locations, high-end golf courses, golf babes, the best in golf equipment… When I’m traveling I use up a lot of power with my many cameras and mobile computing devices. Posting live blogs, social networking commentary, photos, and videos eats up a lot of juice. Plus I have golf GPS’s, bluetooth speakers, and all sorts of other devices I need to charge on the road. Sometimes I’m nowhere near a power outlet and that’s when MyCharge comes in. I’ve got many MyCharge units in my arsenal (see related links below). Now I have the mother of all portable chargers ready for its first gig, the MyCharge Portable Power Outlet.
The Portable Power Outlet packs 20,000mAh of juice, a massive amount. Through two USB ports, a USB-C port, and a 110 volt 65 watt power plug, I can charge up or run many devices at once, including laptops and items which require a wall plug.
I’m about to take this monster on the road to Bandon Dunes, as well as the regular rigorous HOG golf blog schedule. I will post my full review and findings soon. Stay tuned, and stay charged!
Yesterday was a tremendous day. I had the pleasure of taking the HOG World Tour to Utah’s Red Ledges golf club, a Jack Nicklaus signature design. Red Ledges is located in Heber, Utah.
Heber is a quiet town near to dozens of summer and winter activities. Heber is very close to Deer Valley and Park City ski resorts, national forest land, and Jordanelle Reservoir which is a haven for boating and water sports.
My round was very fun and challenging. I was aided by caddie John, who was very good. Whenever I executed the shot, hitting the landing area he suggested, good things happened!
It will take me a while to process all the photos and write my review. Plus I plan to return to review their par-3 course. So stay tuned for my full Red Ledges Golf Course review soon.
I take my golf reviews seriously and spend a lot of time with equipment reviews. This isn’t a “put one grip on one club and hit five balls on the range” review like one might find on lesser golf blogs! I’ve now had the Golf Pride Tour Velvet Align golf grips on my entire gamer set for 10 weeks. I play an average of 3-4 rounds per week. During that 10 weeks I’ve experienced everything from freezing cold, humid, rain, and the last few weeks super hot and dry conditions. I’m not a glove wearer, so my connection and dependence on good grips is even more critical. If my hands slip, it’s bad news. Let’s take a look at these grips and how they have, and continue to fare.
Golf Pride Tour Velvet Align
Golf Pride Tour Velvet is the #1 grip played on worldwide golf tours. It features a scientifically designed non-slip surface pattern with plus sign textures. The texture helps pull moisture away from the surface and reduce slipping. The rubber material used to manufacture the grip is optimized for feel and playability.
The “Align” portion of the grip is quite interesting. There’s a red portion of the grip which is positioned on the bottom side and runs the length of the grip. When the grip is installed on the shaft, this ridge rises up slightly. The raised ridge will be perfectly lined up with the club face if the grip is installed properly. The golfer can feel this ridge in the grip and can associate the club face position and alignment with an actual tactile feel.
Sizes/Weight
Size | Weight | Core Size |
---|---|---|
Standard | 52g | 60 ALIGN |
Midsize | 63.5g | 60 ALIGN |
On The Course
It was interesting feeling the Align ridge the first time I used the grips. Knowing that the ridge was aligned with the club face helped me be aware of the position of the face through different parts of the swing. Over time the ridge has become part of my normal feel and setup. I don’t notice it much now, but will take note if my setup wanders or I feel like I’m not aligned properly.
As I mentioned, I don’t wear golf gloves. I can feel my connection to the grip in all parts of my hand and I seemingly lose a lot of control and distance if any part of my grip slips. Even in sweaty (a.k.a. nervous/high pressure) situations I found the Golf Pride Tour Velvet Align grips to be super sticky and responsive. The surface of these grips is superb. In damp morning conditions or rain I’ve not had any slippage issues.
Final Thoughts
The golf grip connects the golfer to the club. It’s a crucial piece of golf equipment. The Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip insures distance control, power, accuracy, and proper feel. Adding the Align feature to the equation gives more confidence, feedback, and proper setup to the golfer for even better results.
