Monthly gift box subscriptions are very popular right now.  In my monthly sub I’d much rather have cool golf stuff than an overpriced razor blade.  That’s where Mullybox comes in.

Oh goodie!

A Mullybox subscription runs $29/month and includes a minimum of $60 worth of golf goodies delivered right to your doorstep, as you can see above.

Goodies Inside

Inside a Mullybox are golf treasures, from golf balls to towels to tees to game tracking devices.  Every month it is a new and exciting mystery combination.  It’s fun to open her up and see what’s inside!

The take this month (above) is half a dozen premium golf balls, a casino chip ball marker, some golf tees, a Frogg Togg chili pad cooling towel, and an Arccos Driver tracking system.  Woot!  Perfect timing for me.  It’s darn hot here right now and the chili pad is going to come in very handy.

Here’s another look below.

Final Thoughts

Ditch the Dollar Shave Club or whatever other lame monthly subscription you have, or are giving as a gift. Replace that razor with some premium golf accessories from Mullybox!  Guaranteed winner.

2018 Net Matchplay Round Two – It All Clicked

It’s matchplay season. Matchplay is my favorite form of golf. I love to compete head to head.  Today was the 2nd round of net match play.  I made it to round two by narrowly coming away with a win in round one.

Today’s round was different.  I was paired up against my all-time best golf pal, Arnie.  Arnie is not a long hitter but is a master of the short game.  I had to give him two shots so I knew I needed to get out to a lead quickly.

Arnie played very well today, and was 1-over going into the 7th hole.  One problem for him however, was that today I managed to put together all the aspects of my game.  I was a buzzsaw.  I was -3 after six holes, gross.  On the 7th I nearly chipped in for birdie, with the ball rattling around in the hole before ending up on the lip.  That par sealed it.

I finished out the nine with two pars, giving me a -3 33.  No bogeys.  That’s the best nine-hole stretch I’ve played in years. I’m thrilled to have put together a solid round finally.  I have been working quite a bit on all parts of my game through the spring.

Equipment Changes

I also should mention I’m testing some new equipment, which after today has solidified its place in the gamer bag for now.  The new items are the Cobra Golf King F8 driver, New Level Golf 1031 forged irons, and the Srixon Z-Star golf ball.  I’m getting more and more used to the driver and the irons.

I hit 7 of 9 greens in regulation. The two I missed were both approaches with a 9-iron which flew the green.  I have yet to dial in exactly how long the New Level 1031 irons go.  The 9-iron definitely is longer than my old ones. I say “ones” plural intentionally.

Final Thoughts

Today was just one round.  I don’t expect to show up to 9-hole league tomorrow and shoot a 33 again.  Not saying it isn’t possible, but the game has taught me to temper my expectations.  But today showed many positives across the board which helps give me confidence that my game is going the right direction.

In short, I’m not quitting golf….. this week.

Kentwool Tour Golf Socks – Follow Up Review 2011-2018

I’ve said it many times over many years: Kentwool is the best golf sock on the planet. Period.  I had to do some digging to find my first Kentwool golf blog post.  As far as I can tell, it was this Kentwool review back on August 23rd, 2011.  Roughly seven years ago.  Yeah I have sock reviews older than most golf blogs. Some of the socks in my drawer are that old because Kentwool socks refuse to die. Then again, I probably have underwear twice that old. Call the hazmat team.

I’ve been due to freshen up the sock drawer because some of my very old KW’s are starting to thin out. They’re still very useable and have not lost their stretch, but not as padded after being washed 100’s of times. Keep in mind we are talking about socks that have walked literally thousands of miles and are up to SEVEN years old.

I’ve restocked a few new pairs, as seen in the photo above.  I still need to get a bunch more blacks and whites, which are my daily gamers.

The red ones are for my favorite college team, the Utah Utes!

I also wear Kentwool dress socks too, called the 19th Hole. They’re super comfortable and most importantly for me, not too hot.

In fact, I should mention for those who haven’t tried Kentwools.  Though they’re wool, they are not itchy and they are not too hot, even in the summer.

I’ve very excited to announce that I’ve got a Skytrak Personal Launch Monitor in for review here at Hooked on Golf Blog.  Skytrak provides ball flight data like systems costing upwards of $40,000 (Trackman), for under $2,000.

This is perfect timing for me, as I have several drivers, a set of irons with another on the way, and even some wedges to test. I’ll be able to look at the real launch angle, spin numbers, ball speed, club speed, sidespin and more.

I’ll be testing Skytrak this summer and posting my review soon.  Stay tuned for that, and tune into the HOG social networks for updates along the way.
