Red alert! You have exactly one week before Father’s Day.  Stay calm. I’ve got some great golf related Father’s Day gift ideas for you, most of which you can get shipped in time, or find in your local golf shop. I’ll cover a range of under $15 to about $500 so now matter how much you “love” dad, I’ve got you covered.  Each item will have a photo and a link to the HOG review.

Stage V Clinger Cigar Holder $14.99

At $14.99 the Stage V Clinger Cigar Holder is a great gift. It holds cigars of varying sizes and clamps via velcro or strong magnets.

Snell Golf Father’s Day Gift Packs $65-$75

Between $65-$75 is a Snell Golf Father’s Day gift pack.  The packs come with two dozen killer golf balls, an awesome hat, and two casino chip style Snell Golf ball markers. Snell Golf balls are designed by the engineer behind the ProV1 and many other high end “tour” golf balls.

aahSoles Green Coral Flip Flops $30

These flip flops are incredibly comfortable.  The padding under the feet provides a wonderful foot massage with every step.  The joy dad will get for a mere $30 investment is huge.

Emoji Poop Driver Head Cover $30

I love my Emoji Poop head cover. It’s a friendly reminder of how good my golf game really is. Dad’s golf buddies will be envious.  Under $30.

“Skullicious” Tattoo Golf Lucky 13 ProCool Golf Shorts $59.99

Fantastic golf shorts with an attitude featuring roughly 200 skulls. Dad will love wearing these at the stuffy old club.  Under $60.

Devereux Cameron Golf Polo $85

Class dad up with a high end golf polo from Devereux.  Incredible fabric, performance and fit.  $85 well spent.

Sci-Core Indoor-Outdoor Practice Golf Balls $14.95

Indoors or in the yard these are great practice balls.  They fly a fraction of the distance normal golf balls do, and won’t break the neighbor’s window when you blade a flop shot in the front yard.

Kentwool Game Day Collection Golf Socks $20ish

There are no better socks on the planet.  I will not wear any other socks than Kentwool.  They’re not cheap.  They last forever.  Their new game day version features colors of your favorite pro or college sports teams.

OUUL Super Light Python Series Golf Stand Bag $199

My current game bag is this one.  It’s super light and very cool looking with no outlandish logos or marketing on it.  Ouul is a new brand making some very cool golf bags.

Bushnell Golf Pro X2 Laser Rangefinder $499

Do you REALLY love dad?  Then you can pony up the $500 it will take to get him the best golf laser rangefinder on the market, the Bushnell Pro X2.  This is my gamer and I love it.

HOG Android or iOS App FREE

The best things in life are free.  Point dad to the new Hooked on Golf Blog mobile app, available for both major mobile platforms.  To find it, search for “Hooked on Golf Blog” in either app store.

2016 Father’s Day Father/Son Tournament

Every year since I can remember back in my golf memory, my dad and I have teamed up at his club in their Father’s Day tournament.  The tournament is a Father/Son (or daughter, or I suppose transgender or whatever the flavor of the month is) scramble, mainly aimed at being fun.  To hell with fun!  We want to win at all costs!  I kid, sort of.

We have won this event many times, including last year when when racked up 10 birdies and won by four shots.  We had hoped to defend our title this year, but both of us were a little off in our games.  We started off very shaky and made some bogeys.  Midway through the round we got it together and erased a all but one of those bogeys with some birdies.

We didn't have our A game today. Didn't have the B game either. That said, I love playing golf with my dad, especially at the Father's Day tournament. Still placed 3rd in our flight, somehow! Smoke & mirrors.

We ended up with the 2nd best score in our flight and a 3rd place finish.   We were only one shot behind first place.  That will drive you nuts, thinking about all the places you could have made up one or two shots.

Anyway, it was still fun and I look forward to the Father’s Day tournament every year.  As I’ve said many times before, I’ll never forgive my dad for introducing me to the wonderful game of golf.

Antigua Desert Dry Performance Cotton Golf Polo Review

Though I’m not currently on the course (I do have to write these posts from somewhere other than the 2nd green) I’m still enjoying today’s shirt script, the Antigua Desert Dry Performance Cotton Golf Polo.  This is a great shirt for the current weather conditions here, 90+ degrees.  Let’s take a close look at this golf polo.

Antigua Desert Dry Performance Cotton Golf Polo

Materials

I’m a polyester and spandex fan typically.  I’m not talking about 1980’s hair band spandex, just to clarify.  So I’m not as hip on cotton apparel lately.  The Antigua Desert Dry Performance Cotton Golf Polo (yes it is a mouthful) has changed my tune though, from an 80’s hair band song to something much better. The fabric in this polo combines Antigua’s “Desert Dry moisture management technology” along with natural fibers of cotton.

Sounds good but what does that mean? The fabric sucks moisture (sweat) away from the body. It goes through the fabric to the outside where it can evaporate. In even more simple terms, it helps keep the player dry. More on this:

“Cotton as a fiber alone absorbs moisture quickly, but doesn’t allow the moisture to travel across the cotton knitted fibers for quicker release — like synthetic micro-filament fibers. By engineering fabrics utilizing synthetic micro-filament yarns and blending them with fine natural cotton fibers, D2PC offers the look and casual comfort of cotton while maximizing the wicking properties of a performance fabric.” ~Antigua

Style/Fit

This polo is extremely simple in style, yet super good looking. It’s not flashy but it’s classy.

The fit is super comfortable and does not interfere with my mouse clicking in the office or my full golf swing on the course. Those are my two most crucial skills and I need performance out of them!

On The Course

Speaking of the course, I’ve enjoyed many rounds in my DDPC polo. Despite high temperatures and humidity lately, I’ve been quite comfortable. The shirt is very light, soft, and does not pull or bind in my golf swing.

Conclusion

It’s late in the game but still a few days before Father’s Day. Your local golf course shop or major sports/golf retailer may have the Desert Dry Performance Cotton polos in stock. They’re inexpensive, comfortable, stylish, and perform well on and off the course.

Golf Apparel Review: Dunning Golf Stretch Performance Bottoms

Regular followers of this humble golf blog know that I’m a big supporter of the fantastic golf apparel brand Dunning Golf.  Dunning is a higher-end apparel label for men only which is producing some of the absolute best golf shirts, outerwear, pants/shorts, and even underwear.  Today’s review is the Dunning Stretch Performance Bottoms (golf shorts).

Dunning Stretch Performance Bottoms (Golf Shorts)

Dunning Stretch Performance Bottoms (Golf Shorts)

Materials

These shorts are made from 90% polyester and 10% spandex. These are the two best modern materials for golf apparel in my opinion, not cotton. Because of these materials, the shorts are very flexible and comfortable. The shorts don’t wrinkle easily.  They are low maintenance, easy to wash, and don’t shrink.

Style

There’s not an apparel label out there which nails golf style as well as Dunning Golf. These shorts are so sharp, clean looking, and classy. Plus Dunning’s colors seem to match so well with a myriad of shirt colors and styles.

On The Course

There’s nothing worse than tight or uncomfortable apparel impeding or restricting the golf swing. None of that with the Stretch Performance Bottoms. Swing away freely and play as good as you are capable, in full comfort and style.

In the office or out on the town there are no better shorts. Really. No better shorts.

Conclusion

I first found out about Dunning when in Colombia playing in the Web.com Tour Colombia Open pro-am.  I was paired with Kevin Foley and I remember being very impressed with the style and look of his Dunning pants.  That was the first exposure I had to the brand and honestly I’ve never had that type of reaction to pants before.  I’m thrilled to have some Dunning shorts in my massive wardrobe a couple of years later.

The Dunning Stretch Performance shorts shine in all the areas I need them to: comfort, style, performance, maintenance.
