I’m happy to help support new golf brands and entrepreneurs. Here’s your chance to do the same with Father’s Day just around the corner. Check out some Player2 apparel.

On the left side of the photo above is the Player2 “3-Putt” polo.  I must admit that I would normally shy away from any golf product whose name implies something bad, but we’re going to let it slide… this time. The 3-Putt is a performance polo with a classic fit and 4-way stretch.  The polo employs active wicking to pull moisture away from the player and help it quickly evaporate.  The polo keeps the player cool (physically) with “brrr Triple Effect Cooling.  It was 96 degrees here today, so I need a bunch of that brrr Triple Effect NOW!

On the right is a classic T for apres golf. The fabric is mega-soft due to a tri-blend of fabrics.  I dig chilling out in this one.  Sizes run from small to XXL and there are four available colors.

Finally in the center is the Trucker Mesh Hat… er, a “lid.” I dig trucker lids.  Sizes available for adults and kids.

Best of luck to Player2. May your birdies, and your sales be plentiful.

2020 Golf Pride MCC Teams Hybrid Grips – Which Color is Your Team?

The Golf Pride MCC grip is the #1 hybrid grip on tour.  These grips are a hybrid rubber/cord grip which combines the best performance characteristics of each material. Here’s the whole color spectrum, representing color schemes for most sports teams.

The upper hand area of the grip is brushed cotton cord and the the lower part of the grip is a high performance rubber material.  The cord portion naturally gives the player a solid grip and control in all weather conditions while the rubber portion provides feel and responsiveness.

Summary

All weather control – cord style wicks away moisture to help prevent slipping.

Max surface texture – “Pebbled” texture increases surface area, increasing control of the club.

Firm feel – Grip provides firm, responsive feel and a high level of feedback. “Feedback” is the vibration and audible sound translated from the club to the golfer.

Team Colors

After careful analysis my team color is the red and black grip, just right of center.  This matches well the Utah Utes crimson red.

Which color matches your team?

HandiMagnet is Great Golf Accessory for Mounting Gloves, Towels, Cigars

I get so many useless golf gadgets in for review that it’s a big deal when I receive an actual useful one! Well here’s the big deal, the HandiMagnet.  HandiMagnet is a small golf accessory which an incredibly strong magnet on one end, and a multi-function clamp on the other.

Glove/Towel/Paper

The first clamp, seen lower right on the image above, is for gloves, towels, or even papers like scorecards or pin sheets.  Simply attach the super magnet to your push cart or golf cart frame, then hang the glove/towel/paper from the other.  The accessory airing out and drying sweaty gloves.  Take the glove off and hang it on the HandiMagnet while driving the cart or pushing a trolley down the fairway and let the glove air out in the sun and wind.

I’ve used the clamp to hang a pin sheet and have it right up in front of my face on a golf cart. Super convenient.

Cigar Holder

I’ve been known to enjoy a few stogies on the golf course.  One pain when golfing is finding a place to put that cigar. With the 2nd mount (middle of first photo above) one can make any metal object an instant cigar holder.  Below my 4-iron has been converted from a club that’s hard to hit, to a club that provides me convenient access to my Romeo Y Julieta.

Bonus Function – Club Loft Checker

An old golf trick to help a player understand the launch angle of a club is to stick a golf tee on the face of the club.  The tee points to the angle of the shot.  A golfer can use that in practice or on the course (against the rules) to see if a shot will clear an obstacle like a tree.  Sometimes golfers will use some chewing gum to stick the tee to the club.

A bonus with the HandiMagnet is this unit can be used as an easy loft checker.  The magnet is so strong it will not come off even during a full swing.  I tried it and couldn’t get it to budge.

Final Thoughts

Father’s Day is coming up quick! HandiMagnet is a super choice for dad, at a mere $13.99. Get one for dad and one for yourself and still have enough money left over to buy a frosty beverage at the cafe after your next round.

Lynx Power Tune Men’s Complete 11 Piece Golf Club Set With Cart Bag

Golf is expensive on just about every front, from green fees to apparel to equipment. Golf clubs are getting crazy costly. $400, $500+ for a driver!  Iron sets regularly top $1000.  Most fairways and hybrids fetch in the $200 range.  Wedges are often $100 and up.  Equipping a first time golfer with all new gear could like this could run thousands.

I don’t recommend beginner and/or golfers with low budgets buy expensive new clubs at first.  I often point people who inquire about budget golf clubs to the used bin or the classified section. There can be some great deals on clubs there. Clubs which have many good shots left in them.

Until Lynx Golf reached out to me to review the Power Tune complete set, I had no idea I could point golfers with these budgetary needs to a brand spanking new set which includes wedges, putter and even a nice cart bag!  Price? Under $175. That’s insane. Check it out.

Included

  • 460cc titanium driver
  • 3-Fairway Metalwood
  • 4-Hybrid
  • Irons, 5-iron through sand wedge
  • Mallet Putter
  • Cart Bag with five pockets, umbrella holder, towel clip, carrying strap
  • Uniflex graphite shafts, ideal launch characteristics for the target golfer
  • Black rubber compound Lynx grips

Driver

460cc’s is the max allowable driver size.  This 460cc driver is made of high strength titanium and has a 10.5 degree loft.

A decal on the top of the driver helps the golfer with ball position/alignment.

Fairway

The fairway metalwood features 15 degrees of loft, making it a standard 3-metal. This club is made from premium stainless steel and has the same alignment marking as the driver.

4-Hybrid

It’s great that the set comes with a 4-hybrid, rather than a 3 and/or 4-iron.  3 & 4-irons are very hard to hit.  Hybrids are far easier and launch the ball much higher.

Irons

The irons are forgiving and lightweight.

The head design and weighting helps golfers get the ball launched higher and easier.

Sand Wedge

It’s cool that this set comes with a sand wedge.  Most sets like this don’t come with one.

This wedge is a modern design with the proper bounce to help golfers get the ball out of the sand more easily.  The sand wedge in this set will also be a good short game club for anything under around 100 yards.

Putter

The included putter is a solid feeling mallet style putter.

The putter swings smoothly and consistently, and includes alignment lines, dot, and visuals to help the golfer setup properly.

Critiques

The one missing item with this set is a putter cover.

Golf Bag

The cart bag is lightweight and water resistant.

There are five pockets, two which are large pockets for apparel. The three smaller pockets are good for accessories, golf balls, and personal items.  The bag includes an umbrella holder, towel clip and a cart friendly strap system.

Final Thoughts

This package is available exclusively on WalMart.com. It’s only $174.99. That’s an amazingly affordable price for what is included.  What a great way to get someone started, or replace an old set.  Father’s Day is coming up soon and you could hook dad up with an entire new golf rig for less than half of the cost of a $400 driver!

Father’s Day Golf Gift Ideas Over $50

Now it is really crunch time.  You have just this week to get your golfing dad a Father’s Day gift. Since you waited this long, you might as well shell out some real dough for a super-nice gift.  This list is for you.  Get out your American Express Gold Card.  Here we go.

Bushnell Phantom Golf GPS Rangefinder – $99

Phantom showing yardages to center, front, back.

I’m still in the midst of reviewing the Bushnell Phantom golf GPS, but I can safely, and highly recommend it.  I’ve been gaming it for a couple of weeks now and love how quick and accurate it is. I also love keeping it in my pocket so I can grab front/back/center yardages from anywhere.  Stay tuned for my full review soon.

Tommy Armour TA1 Adjustable Driver – $299

You can find the Tommy Armour TA1 driver at Dick’s Sporting Goods.  This is a great adjustable driver for golfers who need forgiveness.  The driver comes in a very nice wooden box too, great Father’s Day package. Like the Bushnell GPS above, I’m early in the review period.  Stay tuned for more.

Cobra King F8 Driver – $399

I’m in the review/testing phase right now on the King F8 driver from Cobra. I’ve been gaming this driver now for a few weeks.  Starting to really like it. The face is the first ever milled face on a driver, and the adjustability is enough to make even the most obsessive compulsive golfer satisfied.

Shotscope V2 GPS Watch with Automated Performance Tracking

It is highly likely that the Shotscope V2 will win the Hooked on Golf Blog 2018 golf accessory of the year award. With this watch you can not only get yardages, but track every shot and view detailed statistics on every club, every hole, every round played on your mobile device or computer.  It is awesome.  Check out the Hooked on Golf Blog Shotscope V2 GPS Watch review for more.

Puma PWRADAPT DISC Golf Shoes – $150

Very cool treads from Puma.  These might be the most comfortable golf shoes ever made.  The “DISC” name comes from the disc which tightens the laces. It is a very cool system. Check out the Hooked on Golf Blog Puma PWRADAPT DISC Golf Shoe review for more.

Chase54 Trekker Golf Shorts and Frequency Polo – $79 & $73

My first Chase54 apparel review left me quite impressed with the quality, style, comfort and performance of the Trekker golf shorts and Frequency polo.  Highly recommended.

New Level 1031 Forged Irons – $1393.00

Do you REALLY love dad, and have a lot of money? Then I suggest picking him up a set of New Level forged irons.  I’ve just started testing the 1031 model, and they’re impressively long and accurate while being easy to hit.  It’s kind of like cheating.
