Tiger the only #1 seed left in match play

Tiger Woods is the only #1 seed left in the Accenture Match Play Championship. Phil Mickelson lost to Justin Rose 3 and 1 in round 2. Jim Furyk lost to Chad Campbell in round two on the 19th hole. Adam Scott lost in the first round to Sean Micheel. Other notables who are gone include Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Vijay Singh and Luke Donald.

The hottest player in golf right now, Charles Howell III is cruising along as well as U.S. Open winner Geoff Ogilvy. If I were to predict (or at least hope for) the semi final matches I’d say it would be Tiger Woods playing Charles Howell III in the left bracket and Geoff Ogilvy playing Chad Campbell in the right. As it sits now I wouldn’t mind seeing Tiger Woods playing Geoff Ogilvy in the final match, but Sean Micheel’s intestinal fortitude and toughness could be fun to watch against Tiger too.

Today should be fun to watch and see what unfolds.

Fuzzy Zoeller trying to find someone to sue over negative comments

How ironic is this story? Fuzzy Zoeller wanted to sue Wikipedia but instead is tracking down the author of some Wiki comments which painted Fuzzy in a negative light. I say ironic because as BogeyMan points out, Fuzzy was the one who made some pretty racist and negative comments about Tiger Woods after his first Masters victory in 1997. GolfBlogger also chimes in with a post on this subject.

Ask the PGA experts questions at PGA.com

There’s a cool new feature on PGA.com called “Ask the PGA experts.” Go to the PGA.com home page and scroll down to the bottom. There you’ll see the experts themselves and links to ask a question and to read the answers.

I submitted a question just to see what would happen and the experts replied! I picked a question relating to my game, specifically my fight with golfer’s elbow:

Are there specific ways to adjust your swing or technique to prevent or reduce “golfer’s elbow?”
Tony K.

Golfers elbow is caused by an early release of the wrists on the downswing or a scooping action through impact. This is usually the result of your swing path being outside to in or your body being out of position. If you put your right arm (for a right handed golfer)out in front of you and bent your right wrist backward so that the back of your right hand and wrist created an angle your would want to maintain that angle as long as you could into impact. When you lose that angle and your hand goes the opposite way you are early releasing the club early and creating stress on the elbow that causes golfers elbow. See your local PGA pro for a lesson and they will be able to help you with your early release.

— Dave Phillips, PGA Professional – Titleist Performance Institute

I actually didn’t think there was a solution to my problem, which was part of the reason I picked that question. I simply thought the stress of impact on my aging elbows was the problem. But apparently I have something to look into. I don’t think my swing path goes outside in, but I DO know that a problem I have is early release on my wrists. Fixing the early release will not only increase my power but apparently help my golfer’s elbow problem. I’m very glad to hear this information.

BrowseGoods.com is amazing

browsegoods.comA new friend of mine Neil Mayle sent me an email yesterday to introduce me to his new web venture, BrowseGoods.com. I get dozens of emails like this every week from companies who want me to write about them here on one of the web’s top golf blogs. Rather than writing something negative about a site I’ll just choose not to write anything. But in this case I’m absolutely amazed at how cool BrowseGoods.com’s engine is and therefore writing this post.

Google Maps for golf (or other) products

BrowseGoods.com works very similarly to an engine like Google Maps. You start zoomed out to the product category overviews and click where you want to zoom in. As you zoom in you see hundreds or even thousands of products which you can then highlight and then buy (on Amazon.com for now). This is about the coolest thing I’ve seen on the web in several years. This engine is amazingly slick. Neil presumably will make his money by people clicking through and using his affiliate codes, generating a commission.

My suggestion

I suggested to Neil that he look into doing a price comparison which would then search many product sites along with Amazon to deliver the user the best deals, like Eat Golf’s Shopper.

This product is still in beta and I look forward to seeing what Neil is able to do in the future. I need to see if he’ll give me a few shares of founder’s stock in the company for writing this article… 😉
