It is around 100 degrees here. When it gets that hot I can’t just drink water on the course. If I only drink water I end up with what the Greeks call “evil eye.” Evil eye is a mind splitting headache centered in my right eyeball. It hurts so bad and the only thing that helps is putting a freezing cold towel on my head and neck.
Hydrate
If I hydrate with a sports drink in these extreme conditions I seldom get the evil eye. My strength, concentration and endurance are also better. I’ve been drinking Gatorade for years and have grown to love the purple fierce and red flavors. I drink so much Gatorade in the summer that I’ve started buying the mix at Coscto and making my own. The cost per ounce is about 100th as much when you make your own.
I’m enjoying the Olympic Women’s beach volleyball golf (Freudian typo) gold metal match between the USA and China.
The USA is up one set to none so far.
What is making it even more “interesting” is that the match is being played in the rain. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m off for some private time. đ
Update: The USA women won the gold!
One of the original and great all time golf blogs is my pal Spiro’s Bogey Lounge. With the birth of Spiro’s first child and the responsibilities that go with it (I know), the Lounge started to sputter.
Being the smart cat Spiro is, he’s brought on someone to take up the writing slack. I’m glad to see Bogey man has still got the desire to keep the lounge going.
“Hoe”-gey lounge
The posts at the Lounge have taken on quite a look, and I mean “look”! There are many “golf babes” and other “babes” featured. No complaints here. A little window shopping never hurts. The day that checking out hotties doesn’t do it for me will be the day I’m a little concerned.
In my round with my dad yesterday I came to the par-3 13th hole at +2. My ball striking, especially my irons, had been pretty good. I guess practicing a bunch of 5-irons on the range helped that day.
On the tee of this 155 yard hole I announced “I haven’t had a hole in one in 7 years.” I nailed an 8-iron and it never left the flagstick. From the tee it looked like it hit the stick.
When we got to the green my ball was about five feet behind the hole. My ball mark was TWO inches right of the cup. If I would have aimed two inches farther left I would have flown the thing right in.
I made the putt for birdie enroute to a 74.
UPDATE: 24 hours later. I guess I can’t quite back it up all the time. I just flamed out in my club championship. Maybe next year.
I got a funny email from a guy named Rob inquiring about advertising this morning. Here’s the thread so far:
Rob:
….Please can you get back to me with an idea of cost for adding the above links to thegolfblog.com?
Me (making sure my blog name and url are in my signature):
Hi Rob. I think you’d have to ask whoever runs “thegolfblog.com” that question.
