As of December 31, a day after Tiger Woods’ birthday, Gillette’s contract with Tiger will be done and it will not be renewed.

Twitter and every other social network are buzzing like an electric shaver about this, so I thought I might as well mention it for those of you who live in a cave and prefer to get your golf news exclusively from HOG!

Next Tiger endorsement loss expected to be ad space on his teeth

HOG crack blog sources tell me the next endorsement to fall from Tiger Woods will be the advertising contract for his front left tooth.  I’ll post more details later as they become available.

USGA executive director David Fay announced that he’s stepping down after 21 years.
It’s been a rewarding, satisfying and fun run.  My heartfelt thanks to all of you, with a special salute to the women and men of the superb USGA staff, who helped make it so.
Some of the accomplishments Fay has to be proud of are bringing golf to the Olympics and bringing U.S. Open play to public courses like Torrey Pines and Bethpage Black.

Golf mecca of St. George, Utah hammered by flooding

This is deja vu from back in 2005 when floods hit one of my favorite Red Rock Country golf towns, St. George, Utah.  We’ve been getting a lot of snow and some rain up here the last couple of days in Salt Lake, but down in southern Utah where it is warmer, rain and some snow in higher elevations is causing some massive flooding and damage.

Below are some photos courtesy of twitter user @beautifulsuzieq.  In this first photo you can see a bridge floating down stream.  That bridge is from Southgate Golf Course.  My buddy Randy from the local Fairways Magazine tells me on facebook that Southgate’s holes 1, 2, 4 and 9 are significantly damaged.

I’ve also gotten word that one of my favorite courses down in St. George, Sunbrook, has had some major damage.  The bridge on #1 tee of the Blackrock course is gone and there is major damage to #9 green.

Below are some youtube videos of some of the flooding.  In the first video you can see a bridge lodged under another bigger bridge.  I know that a bridge was lost at Southgate Golf Course and also the bridge off of #1 tee on the Sunbrook Blackrock course.  I’m trying to figure out if this bridge is one of those two.

Nike Sport Cart Golf Bag

Last month (November 2010) Nike released the new Nike Sport Cart Bag.  I’ve had one in play now for a couple of months and I’ve enjoyed using it.  I can be quite a critic of golf bags because there’s not a piece of gear which gets used and abused as much as the bag itself.  If they’re poorly made or designed in a way which makes golfing harder rather than easier, that bag is going the way of the junk pile.

Sport Cart Bag Overview

This bag is designed for golfers who prefer to use some mode of wheeled transportation for themselves and/or their bags on the golf course.  Those modes may include push carts, pull carts or riding carts.

The top of the bag is designed in such a way that the clubs organize well in two directions, making club access easy for vertically mounted orientation or slanted mounts like those on push/pull carts (trolleys in the UK, aye?).
