Luke Donald played in the RBC Heritage this past weekend and recorded a T37 finish. Rory McIlory did not play on any tours during that time, yet has puzzlingly overtaken Luke Donald for the #1 spot in the world golf rankings once again.
It seems odd that a player can ascend, especially to the #1 ranking, when the player didn’t even play. That is how the odd math in the world golf ranking system works.

Thanks to my good friend and golf pal “Shanego” for sending me this set of fun photos from a golf course in El Salvador Central America called Las Veraneras. I’m happy to add these photos to the HOG Photo Gallery, courtesy of Shanego with full photo credits.
El Salvador is south of Guatemala and north of Nicaragua, west of Honduras on the west coast of Central America. My buddy is down there for some work, but managed to slip out to Las Veraneras for a round of golf during Masters week.
Thanks to Shanego and keep ’em coming buddy! Many people will enjoy the photos and perhaps we can bring some awareness to golf in that region of the world!

In my previous post I’d mentioned that the sun is out. That reminds me to do a quick review.
TanMan Mulligan Grip Enhancing Sunscreen Wipe
I’ll admit that I don’t wear sunscreen as often as I should. There are a few reasons for that. First I’m a dark skinned Greek and we have a resistance to sunburn.
That reason is not good enough? Alright then. Another reason I don’t use sunscreen often enough is the fact that it is inconvenient for golfers. I need something compact and easy to stash in a pocket of my golf bag.
Finally, the primary reason I don’t use sunscreen is that it makes my hands slimy and slippery. When I have to hit a crucial approach shot to the 18th green with two presses and a whopping $4.00 on the line, I’ll be damned if I’m going to have slippery hands!
TanMan’s Mulligan sunscreen wipes solve those logistical issues. First, each wipe comes in a very small and convenient tear open pouch which is barely thicker than a few pieces of paper. Storage issue solved. Second, the wipes enhance the grip.
Critiques
TanMan’s web site needs to be blown up and built over from scratch!
Conclusion
No excuses for me now. I can easily put on sunscreen which won’t compromise my shot making or the limited storage area in my golf bag!
It has been cloudy and rainy here for a few days. In fact it snowed a bit yesterday. But today the sun is out. That means I can wear my lovely Maui Jim Hanalei sunglasses, which is always good. The blue sky reminded me I need to bust out this review on the Hanaleis so here we go.
Design
The Maui Jim Hanalei is a lightweight and light footprint model.
The lightweight frame is made from Grilamid, a polymer which can be bent to extremes yet still retain its shape. This is great for those bad days when you get in your car and accidentally sit on your sunglasses. They’ll pop right back into shape.
The frame’s finish is a high gloss from being tumbled in teakwood and bamboo.
The nose piece and frame ends are tipped in rubber for a secure fit which won’t slip.
Lenses
There are two lens options available for the $199 (retail) Hanalei model:
Frame Colors
Frames for the Hanaleis are available in Gloss Black or Tortoise.
Accessories
Maui Jim’s glasses case is awesome. The case is rugged and has a clip which can allow you to hang the case on your golf bag, gym bag or your dog’s collar.
Also included in the case is the Maui Jim Hawaii style cleaning cloth.
On The Course
These shades have been great for every outdoor activity I’ve been able to throw at them. They’re light and comfortable.
I’ve logged several rounds of golf with the Hanaleis on my skull. The colors of the course are vibrant and clear. Reading the contours of the greens is easy.
I’ve driven and enjoyed many miles in the HOG Tour Van from course to course with the Hanaleis.
Conclusion
Another winner from Maui Jim. Well played. Very comfortable, clear, crisp and light on the cranium.
