I’m still recovering from Saturday night’s Utah/byu game. I don’t type “byu” in caps yes. I really hate ’em. I won’t give those &*$#*&s the courtesy of caps.
The Utah/byu rivalry is extremely heated and bitter. This week’s 48-24 (yes, 48-24) win was as sweet as ever for many reasons. First, beating byu ranks up there with any of the top joys in life for a Ute fan. Second, the Utes won the Mountain West Conference championship outright. Third, they went 12-0 for the 2nd time in team history, and the 2nd time in four years. Last but not least, they moved up to #6 in the polls and will be busting the BCS for a 2nd time (1st time 2004 Fiesta Bowl). It looks like the Utes will be in the Sugar Bowl this year.
I’m proud to be a Ute.
Now why am I recovering? Well first my voice is gone. I sound like I have laryngitis. Screaming obscenities at your team’s opponent for four hours is hard on your voice.
I also did some damage to my ribs and sternum at the game. After the win the audience rushed the field (see image). While climbing over the railing my Ute FootJoy MyJoys (yes I wore them to the game) slipped on the cement wall. I held on, rather then dropping 12 feet. My body weight (which there is plenty of) hit the cement wall directly on my sternum. My chest is killing me but I’m still happy!
Today was a great day and I was playing Thanksgiving Point, a super tough Johnny Miller design.
On the 15th hole I’m at +5 but starting to hit some more solid shots. I bend over to chip after my approach went over the green when an electric shock went through my body from my lower back clear to my fingers and toes. After going all summer without throwing my back out, I’ve thrown it out a 2nd time in two weeks. Not happy.
I’m getting ready to either change the name of Hooked On Golf Blog to Hooked On Food Blog, or start a whole new blog dedicated to food. Since introducing the “lifestyle” section here, I’ve been swamped with some incredible culinary products. Wait a minute… forget all of that. I should start up Hooked On Hot Babes Blog… I digress.
Are you a bachelor or just a crappy cook who thinks macaroni and cheese is gourmet? Is Top Ramen considered the 7th food group? Read on.
Hitching Post Products has a very cool product/service. They make complete high quality meals or individual food dishes which they ship to you. All you have to do in order to prepare them is boil water. I realize boiling water may be difficult, but if I figured it out so can you. The meat items are open flame BBQ’d over a red oak fire pit and seasoned. Woa.
Last night I was in full on bachelor mode. I looked at the case of Top Ramen I bought at Costco and thought…nope. I thought of making a PB&J, but that wasn’t’ going to go with the merlot I was enjoying. Frosted Flakes don’t go well with merlots either…. Then I remembered I had a steak dinner in my freezer. This was my chance to test out the stuff the Hitching Post sent me.
New York steak & garlic bread, preparation in 15-20 minutes
Not much golf blogging today for me. I’m recovering from the intense game last night where my Utah Utes beat TCU 13-10 in the last seconds of the game. What an incredible victory to improve to 10-0 and on track to another BCS busting season.
Last night’s game was a “black out” which meant all the fans were to wear black:
No golf today. Woke up to a blanket of that cold evil white stuff today. There were about four inches on the ground. It isn’t done either. It is coming down hard.
Time to schedule trips south to visit friends in warm places…
