Magnecaddy

You know those suction cups which go on the end of a putter or golf club which are used to pick up the ball out of the hole? With my bad back I may be a few short years of using one, to save myself having to bend down.

In that same vein there’s a golf accessory called Magnecaddy which helps golfers avoid bending down to pick up golf clubs. Magnecaddy is a very powerful magnet which screws onto the end of a golf club. The magnet is strong enough to pick up an iron or wedge, probably several. In the photo below I’m picking up a heavy old Hogan 56 degree wedge from a cart path… Don’t ask me about the cart path part.

No problem picking up a heavy Hogan wedge

In addition to the strong magnet, there is an included ball marker:

Conclusion

Magnecaddy is a bitt of an off-the-wall golf gadget which I would not imagine many serious or “tour” players would use. But it could be a good golf gift for a senior golfer, or one like me with a bad back.

CarveOn is a company based in County Kildare Ireland which makes handcrafted personalized leather goods like wallets, books, purses, keychains, and more. CarveOn also makes a few golf related leather goods. Today we are looking at their yardage book cover, which can also double as a golf scorecard holder.

With its fine leather and combination of old school and modern construction, the CarveOn yardage book exudes class. Add the Hooked On Golf Blog skull logo and it goes beyond classy to a realm beyond imagination.

The yardage book cover has several customizable areas. First you can see on the front cover of the first image that there is the HOG logo, plus at the bottom you can see my name. On the inside top of the cover (image below) you can see more custom text.

I wondered how the HOG logo would translate to this unit and I’m very impressed. The logo and customization look to be laser etched from the leather with very high precision and superb quality.

The leather itself is very plush and soft. I pet it occasionally…

The packaging CarveOn put into this is quite amazing as well (image below).

The outside of the box is also laser etched, and the inside sports some very cool protective and artistic layers. The packaging along with the actual product would make this a fantastic holiday, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, birthday, or Christmas gift.

Conclusion

This is not an everyday inexpensive yardage book cover.  At about $125 USD (79 pounds) the CarveOn is no for everyone’s budget.  If you have the dough to spend for yourself or as a golf gift, and want the highest quality and classiest yardage book cover you can get, this is the one for you.  Customization makes it even better.

Holiday Golf Gift Guide Coming Soon – Get Your Product Listed!

Hooked On Golf Blog ChristmasEvery year around Thanksgiving I post at least one golf holiday gift guide covering all sorts of unique golf equipment, golf apparel, golf accessories, and other items which would make great Christmas (yes, I said that) gifts.  I receive a lot of inquiries about how to get a product listed so for the first time I thought I would do a blog post as a response.

First and foremost I only post products to the HOG golf holiday gift guide which I’ve reviewed in the past year or so.  In the gift guide, I do a short paragraph about the product with a single image, and link to the full review.  From the full review the reader can get the complete story.

If you’ve already had a product reviewed here in the last year, I will automatically be considering it for the gift guide.  If you have not had a product reviewed here in the last year or so, time is running out.  I don’t do fly-by reviews and will need time to test and evaluate the product.

You can reach me in several ways to submit a product.  The best place to go for review submission guidelines and shipping info is the HOG reviews page.  You can also reach HOG on Twitter @HOGGOLFBLOG or Facebook @HookedOnGolfBlog.

Here’s a nice golf gift for Christmas, birthday, or other occasions. Bill Kroen’s Golf Tip-a-Day 2015 Calendar is a daily rip-away calendar which gives a golfer daily doses of golf advice and game-improving information.

It is tough to learn many golf tips at a time.  One at a time per day will be absorbed into the golfer’s brain and retained at a much higher rate.

Top: The Daily Extra

As a bonus, the backside of each tip has another interesting nugget of information called the “daily extra,” not necessarily related to golf.
