Sadly I’ve withdrawn from tomorrow’s city amateur on my home course

The bad back is improving. It has improved from “unbearable to the point of nearly passing out” pain, to “excruciating.” This is good. Hopefully soon it will improve to “hurts really f&*king bad.”

Unfortunately it isn’t close to being well enough to swing a golf club, unless I’m up for the “dropping to my knees in pain since the back feels like someone jabbed an ice pick in my spine” feeling. That’s a good one.

I’ve now withdrawn from a tournament I desperately wanted to play in tomorrow. The city amateur is at my home course, a super tough and hazard ridden track. I’ve never played in the am here due to scheduling issues. This year I even changed around my travel and personal schedule so I’d be in town for it. This course demolishes players who haven’t played there much, so my chances of being in the money would have been great. My chances of winning would be next to nothing though because my pal Tyson, who is the #1 amateur in the state, will be playing and that is his home course too.

I don’t recommend anyone hang around me for a few days. I’m not exactly in a good mood.

This spring, I was playing a round with some friends and stumbled across the B330-RX on the course. It was like love at first strike. I couldn’t believe how far I hit the ball and neither could my playing partners. Not only did this baby go off the tee, but also the performance on and around the greens was pure tour. It was then that I realized that I had found the Holy Grail of golf balls.

The back is in bad shape

The bad back is still hurting.. BAD. Can’t put my socks on without feeling like someone is jabbing an ice pick in my spine. Getting out of the car takes between 20-30 seconds.

The city amateur this Saturday is looking like a no-go at this point unless a miracle happens between now and then. Anyone know a witch doctor? Aliens?

Tortured by my first look at the FootJoy Icon golf shoes

Today is July 22nd, 2009. I should rename it to “FootJoy Day.” Today it is all FootJoy, all the time.

I just finished telling someone how my back is so tweaked right now that I can’t even put shoes or socks on. I’m bent over like the huchback with these severe, stabbing pains in my back due to my scoliosis. I pushed the back too hard this weekend and now I’m paying the price.

A good kind of pain

So while I’m here suffering, sitting bent to the left at a 32 degree angle (the only angle which doesn’t result in extreme stabbing pain), the doorbell rings. FedEx was here to deliver my latest shiny golf toys, a pair of FootJoy Icons.

This is great. I get to “look” at these beautiful golf shoes and perhaps drool on them a bit if I can crawl across the room to them. I won’t be able to try them out for at least a few days, when my back spasms subside. When I do, I’ll be starting my evaluation and getting ready for an Icon reveiw. Stay tuned.
