This week is one of the best of the year, the week the PGA Tour plays THE PLAYERS Championship. Be sure to always write THE PLAYERS in all caps, so you look like you know what you are doing. It is time for (insert cliche) golf’s “5th major,” though personally I’d say it is perhaps golf’s 5th-7th best tournament of the year.
TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course Photos
To start us out this week, click the photo in the upper right to view my TPC Sawgrass Stadium photo gallery. There are currently about 120 photos in there, 99.9% of which I shot. I spent about an hour this morning going through most of them and trying to comment in things like “looking back at 18 tee from 18 fairway” and “17 green from the walkway” etc.
I’m watching the 3rd round of the Wells Fargo Championship yesterday on my killer system. Phil Mickelson is close to being a factor, but his driving is so bad that he might miss the planet if it didn’t have gravity.
Phil gets to the 15th hole, a par-5. Right during Phil’s tee shot the “get in the hole” pinhead in the gallery does his thing and yells “get in the hole.”
Memo to pinheads who yell at Tour events
Shut up. It isn’t cool to yell “get in the hole” or “you’re the man.” You are a moron. Take up viewing another sport where heckling and being a drunk horse’s ass is acceptable.
Memo specifically to yesterday’s pinhead
“Get in the hole dude,” do you realize you yelled get in the hole when Phil hit a TEE SHOT on a PAR-5? Let me help you out since you know nothing about golf. The tee shot on a par-5 won’t have a chance of going in the hole, because… it is a par-5 and the hole is almost 600 yards away. It will take a minimum of two shots to get to the hole.
To make the heckler look like even more of an idiot (which I wasn’t sure was possible), Phil’s shot was awful. The drive went in the water hazard left of the fairway. Perhaps if the bonheaded moron has to yell something in Phil’s swing he should yell “get in the fairway.”
Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there. I hope your husbands or kids let you go out and golf today… 🙂
Tribute to my Mother
I had the pleasure of playing many rounds of golf with my Mom before she lost her battle with lung cancer in 2003. I still remember her waggle and her very mellow persona on the golf course. She never got too mad or too excited over golf shots or scores. Unfortunately I didn’t seem to inherit that, but I’m working on it. She couldn’t hit it far but she hit it straight. I still have her golf clubs, hoping maybe one of my daughters or my lovely bride will someday use them.
My mom was a great lady, well respected and loved around here by everyone who knew her. She was a hell of a cook and a fantastic singer. She was such a great influence on me in many ways. She influenced me very much with my music career, which kept food on my table for close to 25 years.
Perhaps the best thing about my mom was her no-nonsense attitude. If you were full of it, she’d tell you and she wouldn’t sugar coat it. She saw things in crystal clear black and white and wasn’t afraid to let anyone know her opinion. If you didn’t agree with her, that was your problem, not hers.
Here’s to you Mom. Tip of the hat, tipping back a glass. You are still a great influence in my life and the lives of those you touched.
Happy Mother’s Day.

Seve Ballesteors dies at 54
Just before bed tonight I heard the news. The reports are trickling in now via numerous news sources. It appears that Seve Ballesteros has finally lost his battle with cancer at the young age of 54.
This is truly a sad day in golf and sports for us to lose such a classy and loved man. Even today my buddies call miracle pars and nearly impossible shots a “Seve.” He was so fun to watch back in the day.
Rest in peace Seve. Your memory will be eternal.
