Tiger Woods has committed to play in THE PLAYERS (always be sure to use caps for that whole thing) Championship, with two hours to spare before the deadline.
Though he has won this tournament before, this course doesn’t fit Tiger’s game terribly well and I’m a bit surprised that he did commit to play. But I’m sure the golf media, TV, fans and such will be happy. Ratings.
This is making me ill. I’m sick with the thought that someone misinformed Justin Rose who then posted on Twitter that Seve Ballesteros has died. I’ve tried my best to get in touch with Justin to check his source and get him to take that down if it isn’t true. I sure hope it isn’t. No response from Justin.

Just stepped off the course to hear about the death of Seve. One of my idols. What dignity and courage he showed thru what must be the hardest of times. That’s when the true character of a man comes out. I saw how strong my dad was in his last days and I have no doubt Seve was the same. Sad day for golf.
What a black eye for Justin if he has in fact written the epitaph for a great golf legend who has yet to pass. The viral nature of Twitter has people “re-tweeting” or reposting this news which may not be true. I’m very sad.
Meanwhile all the golf scribes who only post on Twitter and don’t read other people’s posts have no idea that half the people on there are worried about Seve’s death, while they post the “great news” that Tiger Woods has committed to play in THE PLAYERS Championship. Gag.
UPDATE 40 minutes later
Justin has responded with this quote below. I feel bad for the guy. If some bonehead reporter really did ask him about the death of Seve, the guy should be stripped of his credentials.
As I stepped off I answered Q’s on his death. From golf reporters! I feel terrible if I have jumped the gun. Was on course for 5 hrs… Thought that something like that should’ve been factual! Felt compelled to say something about the great man. #confused#thrownunderthebus
UPDATE 60 minutes later
It appears that the reporter who asked Rose the questions was Alex Miceli. Below are his last three tweets, ordered newest to oldest, explaining and apologizing for the incident. Man what a black eye for both people. I feel very bad for both of them.
Clearly our world has changed, always trying to get the story immediately, but I should’ve known better.
Alex MiceliIt’s clearly a mistake at this point and I apolgize to Justin and all those that read the tweet.Alex Miceli
Justin Rose tweeted that Seve has died becuase of questions I asked him after his round.
Guys, feel sick to my stomach about the mistake I made there. Please understand the circumstances in which I made my comment. Right off the course, circled by media, asking on my thoughts and memories of Seve. I am relieved to be wrong and I know this info has saddened a lot of people. I felt compelled to share my respect for him immediately. I never would have thought to confirm such a fact. #sorry. Apologies to the Ballesteros family.
Painful Golf Shots
How fun is it when you hit at 3-iron thin and your fingers go numb? I love that even more than having my eyeballs gouged out with rusty pliers. And those stinging irons are especially fun when the temps are cold. Nothing like having numb hands for three holes. It seems that right when the numbness goes away, you do it again.
Another really fun and painful golf related thing I experience is golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow. If you didn’t know, they are two different animals. My golfer’s elbow has flared up recently as I’ve been practicing a lot trying to shake off the winter rust. Range balls are much harder than regular balls because they have to be durable. As soon as I start pounding range balls, my elbows flare up and start hurting with tendinitis.
Shock Lock Sports to the rescue
I’ve been testing out Shot Lock Sports’ Shock Locks lately, to help reduce the impact vibrations which sting my hands and aggravate my golfer’s elbow. So far so good.
What are Shock Locks? Shock Locks are a vibration dampening system for golf clubs. They consist of three pieces of plastic and rubber which go around the hosel and the shaft of the club. Two are black and sort of a shell which goes around a clear rubber “underlast.” Installing them is fairly easy, though I did have a bit of trouble on my older Hogan irons as the hosels are pretty thick. Generally though, they install well on clubs which are 10 years old or less.
On The Course
The system thankfully dampens the vibration to my hands, arms and joints. I felt the golfer’s elbow creeping in a few weeks ago, but since I put the Shock Locks on my irons the condition has gone away.
I don’t notice the Shock Locks on my clubs or find that my swing or game is compromised as a result of having them installed. I do feel less feedback than if they weren’t installed, but that is basically the point. The Locks don’t weigh much at all and don’t change the club weight or feel in my opinion.
As slow as my swing is, I don’t think the extra width at the hosel slows it down either. The extra width does take up a bit more space in the golf bag.
Critiques
Shock Locks change the look of the club as you are standing over it. That can take some getting used to.
The units also increase the space the clubs take up in the bag. If you have a small opening in your bag, the clubs will be more tightly packed.
If you are a total “feel” player looking for lots of impact feedback from your clubs, it might be contradictory for you to put a damping system on them.
Conclusion
Shock Locks deliver as promised. They reduce vibration and shock to my hands, arms, joints and even my brain.
Though I’m a player who loves club feedback I’m willing to give up a little of that. It is much more important for me to be able to play without flaring up my tendinitis. So I’m keeping the shock locks on my irons.
The horn has sounded and play is stopped at the Wells Fargo Championship due to inclement weather, lightning and rain.
Phil Mickelson is -5 on the day through 13 holes and is one shot off the lead at -8. Bill Haas is still in the lead at -9.
Seve Ballesteros at Augusta National
I’m sad to report that Seve Ballesteros’ condition has taken a severe turn for the worst. His family is caring for him in the northern Spanish town of Pedrena.
“The Ballesteros family informs that Seve’s neurological condition has suffered a severe deterioration. The family will inform accordingly about any change in his health condition and takes this opportunity of thanking everyone for the support that both Seve and his own family have been receiving during all this time.”
HOG best wishes to Seve and his family. I’m among millions of fans who love Seve and send our most positive energy his way.
