David Toms

I guess there’s not really a doubt as to whether David Toms is over his playoff loss last week to K.J. Choi at The PLAYERS Championship.  At Colonial Toms has lapped the field in two days after doing what hardly ever can be done, following up a mega low round with another one.  Toms’ double 62’s has given him a 7 shot lead over a group of four players going into the weekend.

Missing the cut

There are a few well known names who missed the cut this week including John Daly, Davis Love III, Ricky Barnes, Tommy Two Gloves Gainey, Justin Leonard and Vijay Singh.  Mike Weir continues to struggle, missing the cut with rounds of 71-79.

Weather delay at Colonial. Should restart around 6:15ET

Looks like it didn’t take David Toms too long to get over the playoff loss at the TPC last week to K.J. Choi.  Toms shot his lowest round on tour yesterday with a 62 and was -4 through 10 until the weather delay.

Rickie Fowler was on 59 watch yesterday too, playing well except for a couple of hiccups which dropped him to a 63.  How you’d like to have a 63 with a double bogey and a bogey on the score card?  How about a double on #9 to shoot a 29 on the front.  This kid has game and it is scary to think how good he’ll be when the game matures a bit.

Weather Delay

The latest word on the weather delay is that play will resume at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial at 6:15ET.

The largest Korean equity firm Fila Korea Ltd. and Mirae Asset Private Equity has agreed to by Acushnet, parent company of Titleist, FootJoy and Pinnacle for roughly $1.3 billion.

“The Fila Korea and Mirae group understands and appreciates our golf industry leadership, passionate associates, and unique and enduring culture. Together, with our new owners, our team is looking forward to strengthening and building upon the global success of the Titleist and FootJoy brands.” ~Acushnet CEO Wally Uihlein

No major changes to Acushnet’s management team are expect currently and its worldwide headquarters in Fairhaven, Massachusetts should remain just that.

“The acquisition of Acushnet transforms our platform with a stable of premier world class brands.  We are equally excited to embrace Acushnet’s exceptional management team led by Wally Uihlein. With our extensive knowledge and reach in Asia, we believe that the Acushnet brands have incredible new opportunities for growth in the emerging markets in Asia.” ~Gene Yoon, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Fila Korea, Ltd.

Back on December 8th I started up a petition to have HOG users chip in and buy Acushnet.  Apparently the $19.60 we scraped up wasn’t quite enough.  Maybe next time.

Adams Idea Tech V3 Hybrid – click to enlarge

The first time I tried an Adams Idea Tech V3 Hybrid wasn’t pleasant.  I borrowed my local director of golf’s model and it felt horrible.  I couldn’t get it up in the air.  So when I received my own V3 from Adams to review I was very skeptical, until I hit it.  It turns out on the first V3 I’d tried, my friend had the shaft modified, lengthened, kick point altered etc.  He’s 6’4″ tall.  That club was set up as bad as a club could be for my 5’9″ frame and granny swing.  My V3 on the other hand, was close to magically setup for me and very easy to hit.

Design

There are many design features and technologies at work with the Adams Idea Tech V3 Hybrid.  And by the way, it would be cool if Adams could come up with a longer name for their next model…  Ahem.  I’m going to call it the V3 for now.
