What a cool story unfolded this past weekend on the PGA Tour. Yet another playoff happened as the The FedEx St. Jude Classic came down to two players, Robert Karlsson and long time tour journeyman Harrison Frazar. Both players had separated themselves from the field by five shots, making it a two horse race Sunday.
The last few regulation holes saw the nerves of both players getting the best of them. Nobody seemed to want to win, or at least have enough control over their nerves to show it. Frazar could have won the thing in regulation, but his approach on the final hole found the water left of the green. As a result, he and Karlsson finished at -13 and a sudden death playoff in ensued.
Each player parred the first two holes of the playoff. On the 3rd, the par-4 12th, Karlsson pushed his approach shot right of the green and was unable to get up and down for par. Harrison Frazar, who hit the green in regulation, two-putted for his first victory in 13 years on the PGA Tour. That first victory came on the 355th attempt.
Congratulations from HOG to Harrison Frazar. Hope the next victory comes a little quicker than the first.
Those who frequent Hooked On Golf Blog (also known as “HOG”) may notice a change of scenery. I’ve been hard at work on a new format for the site.
I loved the previous template but I’m trying to squeeze a little more out of a page now that ever before because of additions to the side bars. I’ve got some new widgets which show my live twitter feeds, the latest golf industry news feed, sponsors, archives and a few other items of interest.
I found a new template which is very slick, modified it to meet the HOG needs and flipped the on switch this past weekend. I hope you enjoy it, and that it makes the HOG experience even better.
I used to play Westridge, also known as “The Ridge,” quite often when I lived closer. This track is on the west end of the Salt Lake valley and has a pretty interesting layout which features some great elevation changes and course shaping. Visit the new HOG Westridge Image Gallery.
I played The Ridge yesterday in a small charity tournament and was surprised to see how all the trees had grown since the last time I played there. The place looks great and is currently in great condition.
Unfortunately, the word is that the course is going to be shut down and torn up to accommodate a highway which will be going right through it. Sad deal. I heard the course will reopen in a couple of years, but the layout will certainly be different.
I’m going to continue with the GPS theme this week and post my review of the GolfBuddy World Platinum GPS. The Platinum is full featured GPS with numerous cool features.

Yardages yardages yardages! The unit shows a display of the golf hole you are on, and can give yardages to front, middle back of green as well as yardages to any place on the hole. You can simply use the touch screen to highlight a target and yardages are calculated.
This unit has a touch screen interface. I’m so used to using an iPhone and an iPad though, that I find myself pinching and dragging my fingers like it is one of those units. It doesn’t quite work the same, but the interface works well.
