The United States Golf Association (USGA) announced this morning that the venue for the 2018 U.S. Open will be Shinnecock Hills. Shinnecock has hosted the U.S. Open four previous times, the last being 2004 when Retief Goosen won. That was quite a performance and back then Goosen was like golf’s version of The Terminator.  Another great memory from a Shinnecock Open will always be Corey Pavin’s 4-wood shot which sealed his victory in 1995.

“We are thrilled that our national championship will return to one of our country’s most-storied venues. We are confident that Shinnecock Hills will provide a true challenge for the world’s premier players, as it has for more than a century.” ~USGA President Jim Hyler

Shinnecock has a list of awards including top 100 in the world, top 100 in the U.S., top 500 holes in the world etc.

Just removed 3rd blog post out of 3,487

Somber mood right now around here.  I’ve just removed a post which will not be named, at the request of someone I know and respect.  Out of 3,487 posts, I’ve now only removed three.

There’s one primary reason a post would be removed and that that is that the post causes harm in some way or another.  For all of the three posts I’ve removed, I’ve felt that they had entertainment value when writing them.  Unfortunately though, to certain entities the content was not entertaining.  For all three I’ve been surprised when contacted to take them down and felt quite bad after the fact.

The first two were simply a case of a corporate entity who was mad at an individual employee who granted me access and interviews without prior approval and going through all the red tape.  Those pieces were some of the coolest blogging I’ve done and it was really unfortunate that I had to remove them.  I took those two down to save the guy’s job.  Since then my opinion of that corporate entity has been quite damaged, especially since my post painted them in an incredible light and gave them a ton of positive commentary.

The 3rd removed post, from today, was a case of being naive and inexperienced as a blogger seven years ago.  It took that long for that naivety come around and catch up to me.  I’m sad that my post caused this person who I respect immensely any problems, and I did extend an apology.

GOLF

This blog is about golf, my love of golf, playing golf, golf gear, golf media, professional golf, the people in golf.  I always try to keep it positive and I NEVER intend my posts to hurt anyone in any way.  In the case of the first two removed posts I did everything as I should have.  It was simply a case of my contact not knowing the procedures he needed to go through.  In the case of the 3rd post, it was my mistake and I’m a little embarrassed.  I also feel bad for any damage I may have caused and I hope that if there was any, it can be fixed.

Anthony Kim's apparel lineup for the U.S. Open - click to see other players scripts

I’m curious to know how many people are interested in this sort of thing.  Nike PR has sent out apparel scripts for their players in the field at this week’s U.S. Open.  Now you can see what Stewart Cink, Anthony Kim and other Nike players will be wearing in advance.  I know I was losing a lot of sleep until I found out what color pants Lucas Glover is going to wear on Sunday’s final round, presuming he makes the cut of course.

The images though, don’t include what type of underwear (boxers, briefs, boxerbriefs or thongs) or what type of socks or shoes they’re wearing.  Looks like there will be a lot of players with chafed cabooses and blisters on their feet!
