Introducing the newest member of the PGA Tour: Jason Gore

jasongoreGore fired a final round 63 to finish in a tie with Roger Tambellini at the Cox Classic. On the second hole Gore nailed a four-foot birdie putt for the win.

By winning his 3rd consecutive Nationwide Tour event today, Jason gets a one way ticket to the PGA Tour. The term for this unusual promotion is a “Battlefield Promotion.” Other players who have received battlefield promotions include Chad Campbell, Heath Slocum, Tom Carter, Patrick Moore, Chris Smith and Pat Bates.

Jason won’t be in the field at the PGA Championship this week, but he should tee it up at the Reno-Tahoe Open.

Welcome to the PGA Tour Jason. Hope you have as much fun there as we will watching you.

P.S. I bet Nike is really glad they had him on their payroll previously.

Remember this post where I told about the guy in my group who shot the 29 with 4 very close missed birdie putts?

The rest of the story is that he shot a 33 on the back 9 (I’d left) to record a new course record of 62.

Nice shootin’ Tex.

Johnny Miller refuses to autograph a Titleist

(This post is one of an ongoing series about my experience at The Champion’s Challenge)
johnnymillerWatched Johnny Miller hit some range balls next to Kevin Stadler and Nancy Lopez for a little while.

When Johnny was done I gave my 11 year old daughter a golf ball and sent her over to Johnny for an autograph. My daughter came back with a disappointed look on her face. She’d handed Johnny the Titleist I gave her to Johnny and he said “I can’t sign that ball. If I sign anything other than a Callaway ball I’d be shot.”

I bet that is a stipulation in your Callaway contract eh Johnny? “Page 44, paragraph 3, line 17 states: You will not autograph any merchandise from a Callaway competitor or you will be shot. Should anyone ask for your autograph on said merchandise, you will refuse the autograph, act inconvenienced and treat them like dirt.”

Memo to Mr. Miller: Callaway doesn’t know or care what you sign. Hell, they’re just trying to stay in business right now.

Thanks Johnny. Real nice. You’ve made a new fan out of my daughter who just thinks you’re a grumpy old golfer.

Couldn’t watch The International today due to a rain delay so I watched the next best thing.

Just tell me when you think I need a psychological evaluation…
