Quest for $1.76

There is no set of rules or guides for golf blogging. Where golf blogging will be in 6 months or 6 years from now is anyone’s guess. But blogging is becoming more and more mainstream. It is becoming more of a trusted “source” for information and you know there are many other outlets out there who are very afraid.

Since HOG got it’s first sponsor a long time ago it has been an interesting experiment. I’ve had various ads here from the likes of Callaway, TaylorMade, Golfsmith, Golfgods, Gimme A Ruling, Teego and many others. Quite frankly I don’t make much dough off this site at all, and that was never the reason I started it anyway. I started it because I love golf. But it is nice that the site can pay it’s own expenses for hosting and the like.

One experiment has been the google ads. You see them everywhere on the web. I have some small links up top here and some bigger ones down the right column. If you click on them I may make a few cents. It all adds up I suppose.

Google won’t give you any dough until you reach $100. Guess what? I’m only $1.76 away from that first google check. I can put that $100 into hosting or reinvest it somehow into making this site better. Suggestions?

I’m not sure I’ll continue to run the google ads though. What do you think? The site is growing exponentially and the google ads are growing with it. Do the ads bother you? Do they take away from the site? Do you just ignore them or do you actually click there occasionally when something happens to interest you?

Darren Clarke leads Tiger’s tournament

Darren ClarkeDarren Clarke is playing some of his best golf of the season. Too bad this isn’t really the “official” season. But if he wins, the dough will spend just the same as “official” money does.

I try to get into the silly season events like this one but sometimes it is hard. This has been an enjoyable tournament to watch though. Michael Campbell has been very fun to watch and has been on fire with the putter.

The final round is today on ABC from 3-6 Eastern. Can Clarke hold on or will his close followers like Padraig or Cambo catch him? Tiger? Well, he’s 11 shots back (sorry Instamarv).

Ernie (Erknee) Els wins the Dunhill

Ernie ElsErnie Els (Erknee as I’ve been calling him lately), won the Dunhill Championship in his home country of South Africa. This was only his 2nd real tournament played since his knee surgery.

I hope Ernie (and anyone else for that matter), can make next season more fun by giving some stiff competition to Tiger.

TaylorMade Monza Corza Double Bend Putter - AGSI TaylorMade
Monza Corza Putter

I’d like one of these Monza Corza putters for Christmas myself. You see, the pro at my local shop took it from me after I’d only made 2 strokes with it. He absolutely refused to give it back after shooting a 29.

The Monza Corza was probably the biggest story of the year as far as putters go. Many folks are raving about it. There’s only one person I can think of who isn’t really doing well with it though: Sergio Garcia.

Click here for the HOG review of the Monza Corza.

radargolfsystemRadar Golf Ball Position System

You gotta get some toys for Christmas:

What a cool invention. The geniuses at Radar Golf have a ball with a micro chip in it which is trackable with their hand held radio transmitter. If you knock one in the crap, turn on your BPS and turn that lost ball into a found ball. Unfortunately the USGA doesn’t approve…

And now the Radar Golf BPS is AVAILABLE!

Click here to ready my article with highlights of my interview of Radar Golf CEO Steve Harari.
