Got an extra $90 million? Buy Troon North then!

If you’ve ever hit Scottsdale on a golf outing you’ve probably played a round at Troon North. If you’ve played more than one round there in one trip, then you have more dough than me. TN was $200 the last time I played it, and I didn’t run into Phil Mickelson or Gary McCord.

TN is a great course (actually there are two 18 hole courses there). I love the design and I’m a big desert course lover. They really “foof” it up there. You have guest services people, people who drive you to the range and assign you a range spot, people who let you know about your tee time in person and escort you to the tee, starters, starters for the starters…

Sometimes that kind of “foofy” resort golf is OK, but sometimes it just gets to be too much. TN borders on the too much end of resort golf for my taste. But you gotta love the course.

The story is floating around now at places like The Sand Trap Forum and Geoff Shackelford’s blog that TN is up for sale. Price: $90,000,000.

Let’s do some math. With NO operating expenses figured in, you’d have to get 450,000 rounds played there to reach $90mil. Woa. Any takers?

littleredbookHarvey Penick’s
Little Red Book

In my opinion this is the best golf book ever written.

The late great Harvey Penick was the instructor at Austin Country Club for many years. Two of his biggest students were Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite.

There isn’t any heavy instruction in The Little Red Book. It won’t tell you much about your grip or swing plane. It is simply notes/observations that Penick literally wrote down in a little red book that he kept for years. The book is completely blog like.

If your spouse is reading this and is in even more of a giving mood, throw in Harvey’s Little Blue Book “The Game For A Lifetime. More Lessons And Teaching.”

World record 1007 yard golf hole

It finally happened, a 1000+ yard golf hole. I don’t know if this is the first one or not, but I predicted something like this a little while ago.

The hole is at Chocolay Downs Golf Course in Marquette Michigan. It’s a par 6 that measures 1007 yards.

1007 yards is the current world record length for a golf hole. Chocolay has also reserved an extra 1/2 mile (yes 1/2 mile), so that it can lengthen the hole when needed to retain it’s world record standing.

Credit golfblogger with the find.
