My pop (69) and I placed 2nd in the annual father’s day tournament at his club Hidden Valley.

I played fairly decent. I chipped in two holes in a row today. I even won a closest to the pin by knocking a 7i about 2 feet from about 170 on #13.

It’s great to play in this tournament every year with my dad.

Tiger missed the cut at the US OPEN

I’m not surprised Tiger missed the cut at this year’s U.S. OPEN. I lost a parent a couple of years ago and it still hurts sometimes. For Tiger to go through that and then try to come back under the most brutal conditions on tour and expect to make the cut is a lot to ask.

Oh, and I won a bet with golfdiscussions.com over the Tiger/Phil U.S. OPEN standings. Time to pay up GD!

And HOG readers are obviously smarter than GD’s because they picked Phil over Tiger… GD had Tiger something like 87%…

🙂

Going the right direction

Living here in Salt Lake is very nice. The seasons vary greatly and it’s one of the few places you can golf and ski on the same day during certain times of the year.

The problem is that the Winter layoff of several months just destroys my game. It has taken me about 3-4 months of playing to get my game back to decent shape. Getting back the short game is really tough for me, especially around the greens.

So I’d been a 2 handi last year and the higher scores this spring shot me up to a 3.8. Thankfully I’m now pulling that thing down and it’s back to a 3.0 now. Do you know how hard it is to go from a 3 to a 2? I got it to a 1 for about a month last year but I couldn’t keep it there.

The goal is to get to scratch but that is going to be tough. I need to post some low rounds for the next while. Even 75’s won’t cut it unless they’re the throw out rounds.

I really think I should be able to post some sub par rounds because I’ve been a birdie machine lately. If I can just eliminate (or reduce) the mistakes. Like yesterday I was even par going into #18 and shot 74. Mental game, mental game.
