Golf Writers to boycott Tiger Woods apology

This is entertaining to say the least.  Tiger’s speech tomorrow is so tightly secured and controlled that the Golf Writers Association of America, a group of 950, has decided to boycott it.  Only three pool writers will be allowed near Tiger during the speech and they had to agree NOT to ask questions.

G.W.A.A. president Vartan Kupelian: “To limit the ability of journalists to attend, listen, see and question Woods goes against the grain of everything we believe.”

The fallout from the speech is going to be huge.  Just imagine how many opinions, dissections, questions and critiques there will be following the speech.  No way I’ll be able to keep my comments to myself so stay tuned here for my incredibly insightful and valuable take on Tiger’s apology.

Tiger Woods to make official statement Friday

Tiger will be making an official statement on Friday at 11:00am EST from the TPC Sawgrass clubhouse.  As I’ve mentioned previously, I anticipate this to be a finely crafted piece, as bullet proof as possible.  That being said, I feel it will probably still by vague if that makes any sense at all.

From Tiger Woods’ web site:

Tiger Woods will be speaking to a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates at 11:00 a.m. EST on Friday at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Tiger plans to discuss his past and his future, and he plans to apologize for his behavior.

While Tiger feels that what happened is fundamentally a matter between him and his wife, he also recognizes that he has hurt and let down a lot of other people who were close to him. He also let down his fans. He wants to begin the process of making amends, and that’s what he’s going to discuss.

His remarks will be open to a press pool for live coverage. It is NOT a news conference.

Predictions?  Any pre-quotes we can think of?  Will we have an official return date?

Tiger Woods match play rumors wrong…

So the rumors about Tiger Woods returning for this week’s Accenture Match Play were wrong. And the deadline for the Masters tournament entry has come and gone with no news of TW entering.

Tiger would really be sending a message that he’s serious about taking a break from professional golf if he didn’t play in the Masters.
