McIlory wins Chinese cash grab

There was a Chinese cash grab this weekend at Mission Hills, Tiger Woods vs. Rory McIlory.  This event is one of many in which the world’s best players fly in on their private jets, play 18 holes, and fill their wheelbarrows up with millions in cash.  Ernie Els has even called this season the “wheelbarrow tour.”

Rory beat Tiger for the 2nd year in a row while together they pocketed somewhere around $3.5 million.

I wonder if they had a side bet?

Right now there  are a lot of big sporting events going on like college football, NFL football and oh yea, the World Series.  (I’m told the World Series is a big event in a sport called baseball, but I’m so focused on golf I’m not really in tune with anything else…).

So tell me… is this type of event of any interest?  If so why?

Jumeirah Group announces closure of their contract with Rory McIlory. Nike announcement presumably coming soon.

Rory McIloryOn Twitter Nike Golf mentioned a “big” addition to their tour staff would be announced on January 7th. That day was yesterday and the only player announcement I got from them was of the signing of Seung Yul Noh. Most of course, assumed the big announcement was that Rory McIlory would be joining their staff.

Now that I’ve received the official parting press release from Jumeirah Group, announcing the end of their 5-year deal with Rory McIlory (below), I would expect to see the Nike announcement coming shortly. Here’s the Jumeirah press release below:
