Dunning Solid Mesh Contrast Collar Signal

The first preview is the new Dunning Solid Mesh Polo with “Contrast Collar Signal.” I think the English translation for that is, “shirt with different colored collar.”

As with every Dunning product I’ve reviewed, this one is very classy and stylish. Can’t wait to put this one through the ringer, so to speak.

Stay tuned for the full review soon, as well as posts on several other Dunning Golf apparel items.

Dunning Golf has quickly become one of my top rated golf apparel makers. Since 2001 New York based Dunning has been making apparel “engineered for athletes, designed for players.” Every Dunning garment I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing has been made from the highest quality fabrics, features classy and timeless design, and performs flawlessly on or off the golf course. Today’s feature, the Stretch Jersey Button Down Polo is no exception.

Stretch Jersey Button Down Polo Overview

The $89 Stretch Jersey Button Down Polo from Dunning Golf is a simple, yet very classy and stylish golf polo. The two-piece button-down collar keeps a fine shape and looks sharp on the course, or even when wearing a sport coat.

The luxurious fabric of this polo feels silky smooth to the touch like the finest cotton or silk, but performs like much more durable fabrics while resisting wrinkles.

The Stretch Jersey is made from 93% technical polyester and 7% spandex. These are fantastic fabrics for performance, breathability, and low maintenance.

Sizes/Colors

A wide variety of sizes is available in the Stretch Jersey: extra small, small, medium, large, extra-large, and double extra-large. I prefer a loose fit so the XL is great for me. Dunning suggests that those who like a cleaner fit simply choose one size smaller.

Three great and simple colors are offered in this polo: black, halo (dark blue), and gray (pictured).

Care

Caring for the polo could not be easier. No dry cleaning. Simply machine wash in cold water with similar colors. No bleach or softeners. Softeners are most definitely not needed. Tumble dry low. If ncecessary, the garment can be ironed on low heat.

On or Off the Course

I’ve tested the Stretch Jersey Button Down in a very wide variety of conditions, from scorching heat in Arizona to cool temperatures in the northern mountains of Utah. In all conditions the comfort, breathability, and performance are flawless.

During the golf swing the polo performs perfectly, not impeding the swing keeping its form and fit throughout.

This past weekend the polo showed its versatility. It was Easter, and I snuck out for a round of 18 holes before the big family Easter festivities and dinner. I had a 10 minute window between putting out on the 18th hole and arriving nearby at the festivities. I figured the perfect apparel choice was the Stretch Jersey as it was great for golf, and very sharp and classy for a nice family celebration. Perfectly played on my part. I only wish my golf game that day matched my apparel scripting skills.

Conclusion

Five keys to great golf apparel are in order: performance, comfort, style, low maintenance, breathability. In all five of these areas the Dunning Golf Stretch Jersey Button Down Polo is off the charts.

Dunning Golf Tour Edition Players Sweater

Dunning Golf Tour Edition Players Sweater

Since 2001 Dunning Golf has been a maker of very high quality, high performance golf apparel.  Ralph Dunning uses proprietary performance fabrics and combines them with very classy styles and designs.  The end result is the most comfortable, best looking, and highest performance golf apparel I’ve reviewed.  Today’s review of the new Tour Edition Players Sweater is no different.  Let us take a look.

Merino Wool

The Tour Edition Players Sweater is made from 100% Australian merino wool.  Before you start thinking you’d be too hot and too itchy, let me tell you that this type of wool is so soft and smooth you might mistake it for silk.

The wool seems to regulate the body temperature.  It breathes well and provides insulation and warmth when needed, but does not get too hot.

Style

“It’s slimming…”  That’s what the lady said to me the first time I put on the TEPS (Tour Edition Players Sweater).  Based on that comment alone I’m sold!  I’m not exactly on the radar for modeling in the next men’s apparel magazine or anything…

The style of this sweater is all class, great to wear on or off the course.

Colors/Sizes

No need for a myriad of colors.  Two is plenty, “Halo” (blue, pictured) and Charcoal gray.

Sizes range from small to double extra-large.

On The Course / Performance

I’m wearing a sweater on the course because I need a little bit of insulation to stay warm and keep the back loose.  Often times wearing these types of layers means a compromise in comfort and movement.  Those compromises mean bad golf swings.  Not the case with the TEPS.  The freedom of movement in the golf swing with this sweater is fantastic.

No restrictions. No binding.  No stretching anywhere.  Swing freely.

Conclusion

I was surprised to see the pricing on this sweater was only $125 retail.  I had it pegged for $199-$249 based on the quality, materials, and style.

When judging golf apparel there four criteria I use, in this order: performance, comfort, style, convenience.  The Dunning Golf Tour Edition Players Sweater earns the highest marks across the board.  That comes as no surprise.  That’s what I would expect from Dunning.

Staying Warm on the Golf Course – Dunning Base Layer Review

Dunning Base Layer Long Sleeve - click to zoom

Dunning Base Layer Long Sleeve – click to zoom

After yesterday’s round I must post this review today. In northern Utah golfing in late November is not common because it is either too cold or the courses are closed due to snow. Since I hadn’t played for 21 days and the wind was down, I decided to brave the cold and play some golf with a good friend. Thanks to my Dunning Layering system, the only cold part of the round was my putting.

Dunning Base Layer Overview

The Dunning Base Layer system is made from 100% merino wool, one of the finest wools available. The merino wool in the base layer is fantastic at regulating body temperature, especially in keeping the player warm and insulated in cold conditions.

Dunning offers two options for the top portion of the base layer (the upper body). There is a short sleeve shirt base layer ($89.00) or a long sleeve version ($99.00). Sizes for the top section come in small, medium, large, extra-large and double extra-large. The only color offered is black.

The bottom portion of the base layer comes in the form of boxer briefs, with three styles to choose from. Sizes for the boxer briefs are small, medium, large, extra-large and double extra-large.

On The Course, At The Game, On The Slopes?

I’m normally pretty picky about the temperatures I’ll be willing to golf in. Anything below 55F is usually a no-go with my sketchy back. Yesterday’s temps were sub 50’s and hovering around the 40’s when the round was over. With my base layer system rocking, I was nice and warm and somehow hitting the ball very well to the point of being 20-30 yards longer than normal. The base layer helped keep me warm so I could focus on playing good golf, not on how cold I was.

I’ve worn the base layer system for two of the last home Utah football games here. My seats are in the west stands, which can be very cold when the sun goes behind them. I’ve nearly frozen to death several times at November football games. Not the case this year. The base layer has been a huge help.

Soon the golf courses here will be permanently closed due to snow. At that point I’ll be hanging up the golf clubs and heading up to Utah’s greatest snow on earth for some skiing. I’m looking forward to putting my base layer into play on the slopes. I like to suggest to my friends at Dunning they they make a long-underwear version of the boxer briefs.

Conclusion

Dunning’s base layer components are not cheap. They could certainly be more expensive than the regular apparel items they would be underneath. That cost is offset immediately by the performance, comfort and especially the warmth the system provides. Thanks to the Dunning layering system, I can enjoy outside activities like golf, football, and soon skiing.

The Base Layer would go great with the Dunning Golf Stretch Thermal ¼-zip pull-over as well as the Dunning Stretch Pique Multi Stripe Polo.
