Man the world is coming to an end here in Salt Lake. I turned the TV on (something I usually only do to watch golf) and live coverage was going on at a local mall where a guy in a trench coat wandered around the mall shooting people. The guy even went into one store, put his backpack on a table and reloaded while families fled.
Salt Lake used to be a quiet town. It’s turning into a big city. The growth is mainly from Californians who are selling their homes there and coming here. They can get relative mansions here for the money they get from their dumps in SoCal.
Note to Californians:
You’ve brought your traffic, your gangs, your crime and your pollution to my once quiet city. If you’re planning on moving from LA, or wherever you live in SoCal, don’t come here. I hear New Mexico is cool.
About a month ago Tadd Fujikawa was the golf buzz after becoming the youngest player in 50 years to make the cut at a U.S. PGA Tour event. Now Fujikawa has won the Hawaii Pearl Open as an amateur, relinquishing the money to Greg Meyer who isn’t an amateur.
Unfortunately my good blog friend Luke Swilor missed the cut.
Is Phil Mickelson back? Despite a double bogey with a lost ball on #5, he notched his 30th PGA Tour victory at Pebble Beach. He tied the tournament record at -20 for a five shot victory with great putting and great short game shots….and he kept his drives in play.
It was quite nice to watch PROFESSIONAL golfers play golf, rather than some of the “celebrities” a.k.a. hacks that play in the pro-am.
Just saw a new Nike commercial. They feature Tiger Woods of course, along with a few other Nike players. This ad is shot in black & white with a very high contrast so dark areas of the people’s skin and clothing simply blend into the background. It’s kind of cool looking.
At the end of the ad it says “2006 PGA Tour winningest driver, irons, fairway woods.” This certainly isn’t a lie, with Tiger being their main player. I’m sure some golf geek out there can tell me what percentage of the players on the PGA Tour play Nike clubs but I’m sure it’s a much smaller number than those who play many of the other big names. For Nike to make this claim is similar to what they were doing at the Masters. Remember they were paying all the old timers to use their sticks? That way they could claim “the most played club at the Masters.”
I’m very saddened by the news that a long time friend of mine, and his family were the victims of a drunk driver. Late last night my old high school friend and band mate (whom I haven’t see for a couple of years) was driving home from a basketball game. A 17 year old drunk driver hit his car, killing my friend’s wife, her unborn child, his 11 year old son and nine year old daughter. My friend is in the hospital.
The drunk driver fled the scene and was found laying in someone’s front yard.
I attended junior high and high school with my friend and his wife. In fact, his wife was the first girl I ever went on a date with.
If I ruled the world, the death penalty for this crime would be letting this guy off easy.
