I sort of blew off reviewing the Power Play Adrenaline Hybrid for a while because it looked so offset. I just figured I’d hook the hell out of it a few times and throw it in the garage. But I finally busted it out and was very surprised to find that I hit it very well, and very straight!
Hireko Power Play SystemQ Adrenaline Hybrid - Hits shots longer than it's name, which is hard to believe. Click to zoom...
Design
This hybrid’s most noticeable feature is the sole shape. The sole comes to a bit of a point or V shape which really helps get under the ball in either tight lies or in the rough. The sole design is what Hireko calls a “unirail.” Uni means one, so it has one rail.
The head on my 21 degree is offset by 1 degree, and the offset of these hybrids varies based on the model. Check out the chart below for all of the lofts and offsets and more stats.
The weighting of the head is distributed to make the club easy to hit, and make shots fly higher.
The grooves of the club are like an iron’s grooves, rather than like a fairway wood or other hybrids.

Wow what a big payday for Bill Haas. Never thought that I’d see someone win $5.4 million more in a golf tournament than what it took to make the Six Million Dollar Man better, stronger, faster… Congrats to Bill Haas, one of the most consistent players all year on Tour. I can’t imagine what it would be like to try and hit a golf shot or a putt with that much on the line. I have a tough time making a good swing when I have a $2 nassau riding on it.
The Playoff
The playoff between Hunter Mahan and Bill Haas was highly entertaining. Both player’s swings on the first playoff hole were shaky, but both made amazing up-and-down pars to extend the playoff. Very clutch putts for both players.
Then there was the “$10 million shot.” On the 2nd playoff hole, the par-4 17th, Haas found the fairway bunker and had an approach of 150 yards. He tugged it just enough for it to hit the green but go over the green and down into the hazard left and deep. But the ball was half exposed in the water, 10 feet below the surface of the green. With his right foot submerged in the water, Haas opened up his wedge and hit one of the most amazing shots I’ve seen, especially with that much on the line. The shot landed with amazing spin and zipped to a stop in easy par range. Mahan might have already been counting is big prize before that… (more…)
As I’ve admitted here many times, I don’t watch a ton of women’s golf. Ever since Annika Sorenstam retired I’ve found it a bit tough to hang. But I DID watch quite a bit of the Solheim Cup this weekend and was thoroughly entertained. I love match play, and the intensity of the players was fantastic. It was great to see the likes of Michelle Wie, Suzann Pettersen, Morgan Pressel and Sophie Gustafson crank up the intensity, playing some amazing clutch/pressure golf. It is simply great to see the best players in their sport competing like this.
The crucial match between Wie and Pettersen was fantastic. Pettersen’s three birdie finish to win the match 1UP was very impressive, especially under that kind of pressure. Wie, who I’ve made light of many times here, did perform very well up until that final wedge shot on the last hole which she knocked in the bunker. It was like watching two champion heavyweights trade punches for a championship.
Congrats to Europe for the win, 15-13. They now posses the Solheim Cup for the first time since 2003. Great job on both sides. I’ll watch more in 2013 for sure.
