G-Mac by Kartel – click for more

I just received a product sample of the new G-Mac apparel line.  G-Mac is the co-operative brand between Irish apparel maker Kartel and Irish golfer Graeme McDowell.  The polo looks very nice and the feel of the fabric is very smooth to the touch.

I’ll be putting the shirt in play and putting it through the extensive HOG test battery and posting a review soon.  I usually wear an XL because I prefer a loose fit which doesn’t impede my golf swing, but this one is a large.  I hope their sizing runs fat-American large and not Euro-small or it could be the world’s shortest apparel.  😉

I’ve added a new G-Mac image gallery here, and inside are a few pictures of some of the new G-Mac product line.

First Look: OGIO Wisp Golf Bag

This last couple of weeks has been tough.  My back has been spasming and I’ve been in some pretty bad pain.  The spasms stopped and I’m now ready to get back to the regularly scheduled golf blogram, and testing gear.  I’ve had this new Wisp bag by OGIO in my review queue for a couple of weeks, and finally have it set up as the gamer bag. It is quite fun, moving one bag to another.   I had the Wisp at the range yesterday (photo) and will be in play for a nice fall round here in a couple of hours.

I’ll be putting the bag through the rigorous HOG test battery over several rounds, and posting a review shortly after that.  Until then, enjoy the OGIO Wisk photos.

Hooked On Golf Blog / Energy Athletic Facebook Photo Contest Winners

The time has come to announce the winners of the Hooked On Golf Blog / Energy Athletic Facebook photo contest!  This has been a fun experiment and collaboration between HOG and EA.  We had some very neat submissions and a big surprise.  Here are the four winners below.

Above left: Stacy Brown is golf’s version of Catwoman surveying a birdie putt, which she made!

Above right: Most liked photo by Evan Luthra had over 1200 likes! Having 100,000 twitter followers helps.

Lower left: Jeff Bricker’s photo is very touching.  A young caddie and his uncle who won the club championship.

Lower right: Mike Dobbyn as posted by his friend John Hartline.  There is some “energy” in this shot for sure.

Conclusion

Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to Energy Athletic for the cool contest concept.  It was a learning experience and quite fun.  I’ll work on more contests and giveaways to “thank” HOG patrons for their support!

USGA To Make Long Putter Ruling This Year – My Prediction

Written by: Tony Korologos | Wednesday, October 17th, 2012
Categories: GolfMiscellaneous

I read an article a day or two ago on Golf Channel stating that the USGA (United States Golf Association) plans to make a ruling on long/belly putters this year.  Personally I don’t think it is the putters themselves which are the issue and I never have.  I think it is the way they are used.  Many years ago Sam Snead putted straddling the target line and that was made illegal.  I predict a similar outcome with “anchoring” putters.  This quote from the Golf Channel interview of USGA Executive Director Mike Davis is quite telling:

“If we make a change, again, if we make a change, it will be Jan. 1 of ’16, and it would be a rules change. We wouldn’t ban the long putter, we wouldn’t ban the mid-length belly putter. We’re looking at the type of stroke that is made.” ~USGA Executive Director Mike Davis

There it is in black and white.  Long or belly putters themselves will not be banned.  The act of anchoring the putter to one’s body, belly, chest, eyeball sockets etc., is what will be banned.  And WHEN that type of stroke is banned will be January 1st, 2016.  Come to think of it, the rule will likely not just include putters.  No club in the bag can be anchored to the body starting in 2016.  Mark it down.
