First Look at a New Way to Track Five Hour Rounds – Slow Watches

If you love golf 24 hours a day, perhaps you might want to look into this new concept by Slow Watches.  Rather than having a minute hand counting the minutes away, or even worse a second hand, this 24-hour watch only shows hours.

Time for golf? 24/7!

Time for golf? 24/7!

The concept is interesting. The wearer supposedly lives life a little more “in the moment” and the time piece provides more awareness of the time of day and the flow of the day.

On the bad side, it might show you just how much of your time is being wasted by the slow jerks in the group in front of you causing a five hour golf round!

Full review coming soon, after I’ve experienced the Slow Watch concept for a while.

Galvin Green Ventil8 Polo Review

I’ve had the pleasure of testing out some great polos from Galvin Green recently. Today’s feature is the Ventil8 (yes, I know) short sleeve golf polo.

wpid-20150902_115636.jpg

Let’s take a look at some of the features of the Ventil8.

  • Breathability via special fabric which keeps the player dry and wicks moisture away from the body
  • Comfort comes from the fabric being very light and flexible
  • The fabric also helps dissipate excess heat from the player’s body
  • Anti-bacterial technology keeps the shirt fresh and helps prevent bad odors
  • Easy to care for via regular machine wash and hang-dry

Style

The Ventil8 is very simple, yet very classy, athletic, and stylish. The cut and trim lines of the polo make a non-physical specimen like me even look decent.

Performance

The polo looks athletic and allows for athletic movements and flexibility without binding, pulling, tightening, or restricting the body movement of the golfer.

Colors

The Ventil8 is available in seven colors.  Pictured here is midnight blue with white trim.

Sizing Advice

Galvin Green is based in Växjö, central Sweden. As such, the sizing tends to be what I call “euro” fit, which means “does not fit fat American.” I normally wear an extra-large but need to wear a double extra-large in Galvin Green’s shirts.

Entertaining Care Instructions

I’m mildly entertained by the care instructions:

“Machine wash warm, with similar colours. Do not use bleach or fabric softener. Do not tumble dry – hang to dry. Iron at low temperature 110°/230F. Do not dry clean. Do not iron on print. Keep away from fire.”

Keep away from fire?  Dang.  I was going to do some fire dancing and juggle flaming golf balls while wearing this polo.  Glad I read that part.

Conclusion

Galvin Green’s Ventil8 is a very stylish and super-high performance golf polo.  Even in the hottest parts of summer with temperatures in excess of 105F here, the polo performed tremendously.  It kept me dry and allowed me free movement to swing away.

Make sure you buy one extra size up if you like a more loose fit.

We Interrupt this Golf Blogram for a GO UTES!

I’m very excited to be tailgating and attending tonight’s University of Utah Utes vs Michigan Wolverines football game. Tonight’s game is huge in the media, and the average ticket price online is $400 with standing room only going for $200!Tin_Cup_Utah_Utes_f

I’m a long time Ute and love going to all the football and basketball games. I watched the Utes as a kid and it has been fun to see the program grow from a crappy small time program and graduate to the big leagues, a 2-0 BCS bowl record, and the Pac-12 Conference.

Tonight’s game is very interesting in that it is the first game for Michigan’s new coach Jim Harbaugh. Not many Ute fans like Harbaugh because of his treatment of former Ute quarterback Alex Smith, when he was QBing for the San Francisco 49ers.  We look forward to handing Harbaugh his first loss as Michigan’s head coach.

Tonight is going to be a blast. I’m off to tailgate soon.

GO UTES!

Golf Cigar Aficionado – La Gloria Cubana Serie RF Cigar

This past weekend I put into play some new sticks. Sticks can be a synonym for golf clubs, but can also be for cigars. Actually put into play new irons and new cigars, so a double set of sticks!

La Gloria Cubana Serie RF Cigar

La Gloria Cubana Serie RF Cigar

I was struggling with my game on the front nine. I decided I should tone my intensity down a bit and enjoy a cigar during the round. On the par-5 10th hole I started up this La Gloria Cubana Serie RF from Famous Smoke Shop.  I hit a good drive but it kicked right and ended up in a lateral hazard. After taking my drop from the hazard I bombed a 3-wood from 270 and hit the green, past the pin. I then nailed about a 40 footer for birdie. Birdie, even with the penalty for the hazard.

First birdie of the day. Must be the cigar, right?

On the next hole I missed the green left, but chipped in for my second consecutive birdie.

Definitely the cigar!

Two holes later, I made birdie on the par-5 14th.

All told I carded three birdies during this fine cigar’s life. It did kick my butt a little bit. I smoked it a little too fast. Otherwise I might have had another one to try and finish out the last four holes with more birdies.

Birdie Stats

Cigar holes: Three birdies.
Non-cigar holes: Zero birdies.

Cigar Stats

  • Body: Medium
  • Filler: Dominican and Nicaraguan
  • Binder: Havano
  • Wrapper: Ecuadorian
  • Price: A little over $5.00 each

Conclusion

I might make the PGA Tour if I just smoke 4-5 of these per golf round.
