CYCL’d Golf – Recycled Golf Balls
We all use recycled golf balls. Don’t you love it when you find the perfect quality ball in the bushes, just the name brand and model you like? It’s like finding money. Too often though, those found balls are junkers, destined to be put in the shag bag and perhaps used as range balls at that course which has limited flight practice balls.

It can be quite painful to pay retail for golf balls. $40-$50-$60 a dozen? That’s craziness. That could equal $5 per shot on my home course, where one brings an extra dozen for the front nine alone.

Packaging Doubles as a Putting Aid
A very unique aspect to Cycl’d’s product is the box the balls come in. With a couple of quick folds, the box turns into a putting aid. The top of the box has a hole which is two inches smaller than a regulation cup. The smaller hole helps golfers increase their accuracy.

The top of the box when setup properly is at a 25 degree incline. Putts which go over the box would travel three feet past the hole. Putts that go in the hole are traveling at a pace in which they would normally travel one foot past a regular golf hole, the optimal distance as proven by many golf researchers like Dave Pelz.
Conclusion
I can get a dozen “tour” quality golf balls for $17 with an included putting training aid? Sign me up!

New Bridgestone J715 Driver Announced

I really loved the J40 445 driver from Bridgestone Golf a couple of years ago. It is still in my driver rotation. Now they have a new model out, the J715. I’m not sure what the numbers mean, except the 15 is for 2015.

GolfLands.net Steals Content

Time to shame a content stealing asshole into removing my content. The website GolfLands dot net is reposting content from here and from the HOG sister site and golf newswire, HOGWire.biz. All of the posts you can see in the “recent posts” list to the right in the screen capture below are from HOG or HOGWire, and obviously the main post you can see is HOG content. That’s one of the reasons I often mention “Hooked On Golf Blog” in my posts, so when dicks like this copy my content it shows up on their site. I also love to post these because often times these sites which are stealing the content auto-post them. So for a time you might see this post appear on their site.
Why Do I Care?
Whenever I make these content stealing awareness posts invariably some bonehead asks me what the big deal is, citing that it is “free publicity” for me and all that. NO. First, there are no links back to the content owner, me.
Second, this is duplicated content which confuses Google’s search results and rankings. It does nothing but hurt the original site which produced the content.
Third, I was raised to believe that stealing is wrong. Yeah, crazy huh?
What Next?
What’s next is I’ll use that site’s contact page to send them a not-so friendly note to remove my content. Oddly that side has a contact page. Most sites like this don’t. I doubt there will be a response, but if there is, it will be a phony naive response like “I thought it helped you” or “I installed an autoblog plugin and it did it automatically” kind of bullshit. Another favorite is, “a friend posted it.”
Right.
2014 Product of the Year Awards – Best New Product – GAME GOLF

I get pretty sick of the overuse of the words “innovative” and “revolutionary” in the golf industry. Seems like every golf accessory, golf club, golf ball, and golf training aid claims it will “revolutionize golf.” Most don’t and most are junk.

GAME GOLF however, is revolutionary. It’s a GPS system which tracks the player’s shots during a round and in post-round provides amazing statistics for each shot and each club. It even plots the shots on top of a Google map. That IS revolutionary, and that’s why Game Golf wins the 2014 Hooked On Golf Blog Product of the Year – Best New Product Award.
As awesome as it is, Game Golf is missing a HUGE statistic: putts per greens in regulation. The current putting stats it tracks is fairly useless, only tracking putts per hole. So someone who misses every green and gets up and down 75% of the time would have a better “putting average” than a PGA Tour pro.
Could I really be as good at putting as Jim Furyk, Lee Westwood, and Graeme McDowell? I doubt it.
Conclusion
The sky is the limit for Game Golf. What a great system.
I’m hoping they’ll continue to improve the product and will soon add putts-per-GIR. If they do, Game Golf will stay in my bag for 2015!

2014 Christmas Classic Video

Fresh off the editing room floor is the video of the recently contested 2014 Christmas Classic golf tournament. The annual Christmas Classic is held every Christmas day at River Oaks Golf Course in Sandy, Utah, snow permitting. If the course is open, the tournament is off. The tournament has been going for at least 10 years.
In this tournament a par-3 hole is picked. The hole can be a regular par-3, or like this year, one we make up. Each player brings 12 golf balls, custom marked so they can be easily identified in the snow. The closest ball to the pin is the winner.
This year we had a new competitor, Robert Lund. It was nice to have a new participant, and fantastic that Robert put his musical genius to work and quickly made up the new theme music, “The 12 Balls of Christmas.”
Congrats to this year’s champion, Dan Crookston!
