Butch Harmon dumps John Daly due to drinking problems

It was a good thought, getting a coach and getting “serious” about golf. That’s what John Daly set out to do in the 2008 PGA Tour season after losing his tour card. That thought didn’t last long though. Butch Harmon (former Tiger Woods coach and current coach to many tour players like Adam Scott) finally got fed up with Daly’s “shenanigans” and ejected.

Harmon quotes:

“My whole goal for him was he’s got to show me golf is the most important thing in his life, and the most important thing in his life is getting drunk.”

“I’ve let him know that after his actions of last weekend (PODS Championship), we are no longer together. In all honesty, I’m a very busy person. I’m willing to help the kid, but until he helps himself and makes golf his No. 1 priority, I’m not his guy.

“Jon Gruden caddying, I thought was ridiculous. I thought he made a circus out of the whole event.”

“He would work hard and get better, but when things don’t go right, it’s back to the alcohol stuff. I love this kid. He’s a tremendous talent. But if he’s not going to give 100 percent effort, it’s a waste of my time.”

“All the guys I work with are working their (tails) off. John didn’t have it. I like the kid, but he’s got to get his head on straight. The partying and other shenanigans, if that’s the way he wants to be, I don’t choose to be a part of it.”

The question is, where does it end with JD? Broke, drunk, washed up, no family or friends? He’s on that path.

JD is a moron. More natural talent that anyone else bar a few and he just throws it all away. What a knob. Enough said. He’s done

I borrowed JD’s book from the local library yesterday. Seems that he’s kinda proud of being the party animal. He also talked about the good times, and his good play. He says he wants to get back on track. From what has happened the last two days–I don’t think so.

I just hope that the next story isn’t an obit.
