For the first time in the history of The Masters, the Wednesday par-3 contest will be televised.
The par-3 contest is a very casual tournament held on Augusta National’s par-3 course. Many fun pairings like Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer a few years ago, are fun to watch. Television coverage will be April 9 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on ESPN.
No winner of the par-3 contest has gone on to win The Masters. There have been 63 aces since the beginning of the par-3 contest in 1960.
Masters Kids Menu
Do they have pimento cheese sandwiches for kids at Augusta National? Starting in 2008 youngsters aged 8-16 will be admitted free on tournament days. They just have to be accompanied by an accredited patron.
Alternate title: Chucka Boom Boom
A couple of days ago I did a post which said that Charless Howell III was no longer with Callaway. People wondered where he’d end up and now we know.
Charles has signed with Bridgestone Golf. He’ll be sporting Bridgestone logos on his hat, shirt and golf bag. He’s slated to be playing new Bridgestone irons which haven’t been released yet and the Tour B330-S Golf Ball.
Bridgestone’s press release is below:
Nike Golf announced the next incarnations of their drivers, the SQ SUMO² 5900 and SQ SUMO 5000.
The Sumo SQ 5900 and 5000 have slightly deeper faces and a modified body shape, designed for precision and more ball speed.
What’s in a number? 5900? 5000?
The 5900 is the square version for the average player who wants distance and doesn’t need to work the ball. The 5000 is the version Tiger Woods will be playing, with a more traditional shaped head. The 5000 more geared toward advanced players and pros who need more control and workability.
The new Nike SQ SUMO² 5900 and SQ SUMO 5000 drivers will be available on February 2nd, 2008. Nike is calling that day “Sumo Saturday.”
