mastersHoly Schwartzel!  Charl Schwartzel chipped in for birdie on #1, then holes out for EAGLE on #3 from 108 yards.  He’s tied with the lead after McIlroy’s bogey on #1.

McIlroy hit some bad shots on #2, but made a great up-and-down for par on the par-5.

Meanwhile, Tiger Woods is catching fire with birdies on #2, #3, #6 and #7.  He’s marching hard and the galleries are very loud.  Roars everywhere.

This is getting intense.  Welcome to Sunday at The Masters.

mastersTiger Woods got off to a great start with birdies on #2 and #3.  Something distracted him in his swing on #4 tee and he commented “not in my swing.”  Camera, sneeze.. who knows.  Could have been a bird chirping over on the other side of the course.  He’ll have a very difficult two putt ahead of him on #4 green.

Jason Day has bogeyed #1, leaving the group at -8.

Angel Cabrera and Rory McIlroy are just about to tee off.

Update: Tiger did miss the par putt on #4.

Cabrera and McIlroy have teed off.  McIlroy is in the fairway and Cabrera is in the treeline left.

Finally we have an answer to the “Is Tiger back?” question. Yes, he is WAY back.

7 shots off the lead coming into Masters Sunday

I’ll admit that after Tiger’s 66 on Friday I wanted to jump on the Tiger is back bandwagon.  Yesterday his irons were very good, especially that shot on 15 where he had to hit a massive hook around the trees and made it to the green from well over 200 yards.

But the killer instinct on the greens and amazing putting we used to see from Tiger isn’t there.  Yes his speed was good and his lines near perfect.  But at Augusta National, near perfect putting isn’t good enough.

After shooting a deflating 74 yesterday, I finally believe I have the correct answer for anyone who asks if Tiger is back.  “Yes, he is way back.”

Thanks to Emily Kay for the inspiration on this post!
