Ok it is time to start my updates for today. I’ve got Amen Corner live on my left 24″ monitor and holes 15 & 16 streaming on my iPhone…

3:30pm ET

There was virtually NO wind earlier, but it is starting to pick up.

We have a log jam at the top.  The following players are at -5: Jim Furyk (16), Larry Mize (through 15, not kidding), Chad Campbell (10), Shingo Katayama (F).

Cabrera is in the house at -4.
Mike Weir is playing well at -3, but could have easily been -6 by the 17th.
Garcia made up some ground after going in Rae’s creek on 12.  Even after bogey on 16.
Tiger Woods doesn’t usually start out quickly at the Masters.  He’s +1 after 6.
Phil Mickelson is at +1 after 17.

2:00pm ET

Chad Campbell is on pace to shoot a 54. He has birdied the first FIVE holes.
Tim Clark shot 68 today after winning yesterday’s Par-3 contest.
Camilo Villegas is looking like he’s about to implode, just knocked one in the water on 12.
Fisher, Cabrera are in the clubhouse at -3. Watney, Jimenez and Marksaeng are in at -2.
Shingo Katayama is at -5 through 15.
Sergio Garcia has gone to a belly putter. I predict he’s toast if he already went to a belly. He will implode.
In the meltdown department, Michael Campbell is in the house with an 80.

Masters iPhone
I’m an Apple/Mac guy. I love my iPhone 3G with all of its capabililties. But the “phone” part sucks and the monthly bills are 3x what they were when I was on Verizon. I can now say that all that extra dough is worth it since I’ve installed the free Masters iPhone App.

Features of the Masters iPhone App:

  • Live Leaderboard keeps you up to date, and shows player pairings and tee times.
  • Amen Corner Live has live video streaming of holes 11, 12 and 13.
  • Masters Extra has more video coverage from Augusta.
  • Live video feeds from holes 15 & 16
  • The Highlights section has random content, including the Par 3 contest.
  • An interactive course map tells you about the course and includes video flyovers of each hole.
  • You can select 3G, Wifi or Edge networks for your connection.

My cousin who also happens to be one of my best friends, invited me to Vegas this weekend to watch the Masters at the Winn. As tempting as that was, I had to stay here at HOG world headquarters. My cuz did just email me a bunch of betting info he got from the Winn sports book:

Tiger opened at 9:5 and has gone up to 11:5.

Phil is 7 to 1.
Ogilvy opened at 35/1 and is down to about 10/1 last I checked.
Sergio: 18/1
Vijay started 20/1, now 35/1

Bettors dark horses: Henrik Stenson started at 40/1, now 28/1; same thing with Camilo Villegas; Zach Johnson has gone from 50/1 to 30/1

The betting sheet has 50 top players, Tiger through Martin Kaymer, and then the field for all others. Mr. Field started at 50/1 and was 6/1 yesterday.

Will tiger win line bet: 220 yes, -260 no
Lowest completed round by anyone over/under 66.5
Hole in one? Yes 140, no -160
Tiger in top 2: 135/-155
Phil in top 8: -110 for yes, -110 for no. Weird, perhaps a typo.
Playoff? 270/-330
Total winning score over/under: 280.5
margin of victory: 1 shot 13/5, 2: 4/1, 3 5/1, 4+ 7/2, playoff: 5/2

2009 Masters Par 3 Contest

Nick Faldo‘s hair is as greasy as ever. He needs some wardrobe help. He’s wearing floods and his shirt is way too tight for his not-so buff body.

Tim Clark aced the 9th hole to reach -5 for the par 3 contest at the Masters.

Greg Norman aced the 6th hole an turned to give his caddy a kiss. His caddy is Chris Evert.

The Big Three are playing together, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player.

Jack Nicklaus birdied the first two holes and nearly birdied the 3rd.

Bubba Watson‘s wife, and caddy, dumped two shots into a lake.

Ben Crenshaw can still putt.

John Merrick aced the 2nd hole.

Gary Player made a par on the 9th hole after hitting his tee shot in the water. An mulligan ACE!
