Tiger Woods’ close friend, and my buddy, Mark O’Meara had some interesting quotes about Tiger today.

O’Meara on Tiger’s return:

He hasn’t told me personally when he’s going to start back, but I know he’s pretty much almost ready to start back, so I wouldn’t be surprised.  But I don’t make his schedule, and I know that everybody always wants me to tell everybody when he’s going to play, but I don’t know what he’s going to play.

I think he’s going to be come back better than ever.  That’s just my opinion, and I can be wrong. But most of the time with Tiger, I’ve been right.

Tiger’s 2nd child Charlie’s birth was hurdle #1, and full recovery from his knee surgery were the two hurdles for Tiger.  Based on the fact that those have both happened, Mark O’Meara’s comments, and the fact that Tiger’s newsletter stated he was playing at full bore say he’s close.

A look at the schedule for good tournament candidates

Looking ahead, next week’s Accenture Match Play is a good candidate for Tiger’s return.  Accenture sponsors Tiger.  Plus, being match play means Tiger may not have to play as many holes if he closes players out early (or they close him out).  On 2nd thought though, the 36 hole final match would be tough.

Whether Tiger returns next week or not I definitely don’t see him playing at the Honda Classic in the first week of March.  Not terribly likely he plays the week after in Puerto Rico either.  So those two tournaments could be a chance to rest and evaluate the knee IF he plays the Accenture.

Doral on March 12 is a strong candidate for Tiger to play, and the Arnold Palmer Inivitational March 26th is a very high probability in my estimation.

Then Tiger would rest before the Masters Tournament on April 9th.
