I’ve said this so many times but I just keep having to say it.  The creativity and ingenuity of golf inventors and entrepreneurs is unparalleled in any other industry.  Once again I’m astonished at the R&D which has gone into another golf training device, the Gyroswing.

What is the Gyroswing?

The Gyroswing is a scaled down golf club with a freakin’ gyroscope in it!  Yes, a golf club which has a gyroscope built into the head.  The club is a training device which helps players groove the proper swing plane.

What is a gyroscope?

A couple of definitions:

  • A rotating mechanism in the form of a universally mounted spinning wheel that offers resistance to turns in any direction.
  • A spinning wheel which by virtue of its construction can spin at a very high speed to enable anything attached to, to maintain a steady position.

The concept

the 20,000 RPM (revolutions per minute) wheel spins inside the head and creates a resistance to changes in direction off its axis.  When changes in direction do occur, the device then tends to strongly want to go in that direction.  This is most noticeable when cocking and releasing the wrists.
