Wie withdraws from Ginn after 16 holes

From Fox News:

Michelle Wie withdrew from the Ginn Tribute on Thursday after playing much of the first round with bandaged wrists and shooting 14 over par through 16 holes. After Wie bogeyed the par-4 seventh, the 17-year-old star from Hawaii told an LPGA tour official: “We’re not going to play anymore.” Her round included a 10 on the par-5 third hole. She shook hands with her playing partners on the eighth tee and rode the cart back to the clubhouse with her caddie and parents.

So let me get this straight just so I’m sure…

This person (or “star” as is described by the Fox media boneheads) who scored a 10 on a par-5 in an LPGA event and made it to 14 over par for 16 holes before bailing is PLAYING IN A PGA TOUR EVENT???

Fairway Flapper Female Golf Bloggerhttp://www.fairwayflapper.com/ is my latest blogroll addition and is the home of a female golf blogger who has been at it since April 5th, 2007. Liz has been busy so go check out all her posts. With a picture this cute she’s bound to become popular with the golf blogging boys club… The “Flapper’s” profile can be seen on The Golf Space as well at http://www.thegolfspace.com/FairwayFlapper.

Speaking of female golf bloggers…

I think an article on female golf bloggers should be in the works soon. I’d dig the research! I can include my #1 fav The Golf Chick, along with long time blog pal Miranda, The Golf Girl and of course Heather. Speaking of female golf bloggers, what’s the latest with occasional HOG writer Megan Heckeroth? Haven’t heard from her in a while.

The “race” to the FedEx Cup playoffs? What race?

I saw an ad on some golf broadcast last week regarding the FedEx Cup. It said something like “The race to the FedEx Cup playoffs is heating up” bla bla bla… Um, what race?

I’m not feeling it yet. I’m sorry but this season doesn’t seem any different than any other PGA Tour season:

Tiger and Phil play whenever they want.
Vijay has played in more than twice as many tournaments as Tiger.
Tiger is at the top of the money list.
The media is gaga over Tiger and would rather cover him blowing snot out of his nose than other players playing golf….

All that sounds like PGA Tour circa 1997-2006 to me. I don’t really sense anything different yet due to the FedEx Cup. Maybe that will change as it “heats up” even more but I’m skeptical…

Juicy pairings to watch at The Memorial

Here are a few pairings I think are interesting for Thursday at Jack’s Memorial Tournament:

8:13 am Mickelson, Phil Holmes, J.B. Palmer, Ryan

Phil is playing arguably the best golf of anyone on tour after his TPC win. Both Phil and especially Holmes can bomb it.

8:57 am Weekley, Boo Pavin, Corey Faxon, Brad

LPGA style…

9:08 am Howell III, Charles O’Hair, Sean Purdy, Ted

Howell and O’Hair? It’s the battle of the 24 inch waists!

9:41 am Furyk, Jim Els, Ernie DiMarco, Chris

Wow what a pairing to follow around on the course. One beautifully perfect swing and two bizarre swings that work for their respective owners.

10:36 am Villegas, Camilo Watson, Bubba Snedeker, Brandt

Bombs away….

11:53 am Scott, Adam Love III, Davis Pettersson, Carl

What great swings to watch between Scott and DLIII.

12:04 pm Singh, Vijay Wilson, Mark Ogilvy, Geoff

Singh and Ogilvy, nice.

12:37 pm Woods, Tiger Hoffman, Charley Bryant, Bart

Obligational Tiger mention…

12:59 pm Johnson, Zach Curtis, Ben Olazabal, Jose Maria

Ball striking anyone?

I’d better set the DVR for tomorrow. I’m warming up for a 5 continuous days of tournaments…
