Bandit Wedge

I’ve been experimenting with a crazy wedge lately called the Bandit Wedge.  This wedge reminds me of those no-shank F2 wedges which I reviewed clear back in March of 2006.

In working on my review here I’ve been trying to do some research on the Bandit Wedge, but there’s nothing out there.  No web site to be found.  I can’t find anything about this club anywhere online.   So I’ll proceed solely on my experience with the club.

The Concept

Many people shank their wedges.  I played with a guy who did it all the time.  It is hard to watch.  Fortunately I don’t shank my chips, but I do hit an occasional shank with full shots.  I won’t be doing that with this club.

The Bandit has a bent hosel to prevent shanks.  The head is perimeter weighted to make it easy to hit.

Mickelson could overtake Woods as #1 at this week’s Bridgestone Invitational

Tiger Woods is in jeopardy of losing his number one ranking at this week’s Bridgestone Invitational.  Both Lee Westwood and Phil Mickelson had the chance to overtake Tiger coming into this weekend if TW, but Westwood has withdrawn with that same nagging leg injury he’s had for a few weeks.  He will not be playing in next week’s PGA Championship either.  Speculation is that he’s resting up the leg for the Ryder Cup.

Phil on the other hand, can overtake Tiger with a win or a top four and with Tiger finishing outside the top 37.  With rounds of 74 + 72 (failing to break par in either of the first two rounds of the Bridgestone), Tiger currently sits at a tie for 72nd place.

HOG moves to new server

As of 4:00PM MT, Hooked On Golf Blog is officially housed on a new, more powerful dedicated server.  Thanks to some great sponsor ad placements here, I’ve secured the new server for the next YEAR.  Yes, a whole year of hosting on a powerful server is covered!

About the new server

The old server was a single core processor machine with 3GB of ram, and a good, but not blazing fast throughput.  The new server has a quad core with more than four times the processing power.  In addition, there’s an additional gig of ram, higher throughput for faster delivery of files, and 64 bit processing versus 32 bit.

In other words, the new server should kick some serious butt!

If you have any issues or problems, chime in at the TGS Forum here and let me know what is up so I can check it out.

Homes For Our Troops Tourney Pictures

I just got back from a great and fun tournament for Homes For Our Troops.  My buddy Bryant Jacobs did an awesome job putting it together and raising money for wounded veterans.

I met and played in the tournament with two vets, one is Travis (right below) and the other was a vet from Vietnam.

Left to right above: Guy Lester (director of golf at River Oaks), Bryant Jacobs, Tony (me) Korologos, Travis Wood

Travis was blown up in Afghanistan and lost a leg and function of many parts of his body.  He’s had 84, YES 84 surgeries and was in the hospital for 2.5 years.  He could be down with all of that, but he wasn’t.  He was very positive and energetic and quite fun to be around.

Tip o’ the hat to Travis, Bryant and Homes For Our Troops.  The tournament was great and judging from the big crowd I’d say it was a great success.

Today I hope to initiate the switch to a new and more powerful dedicated server here.  During this period, the web site may or may not work for a while.

Thanks for your patience.  See you on the other side…
