It’s MASTERS WEEK!  WOOOT!  It’s that time of the year again when golf enthusiasts from around the world gather to witness one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world – the Masters Tournament. As the first major of the year, the tournament always attracts some of the biggest names in golf, including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, and a host of other talented players.

Tiger Woods

Will Tiger Break Jack’s record? I might break your jaw if you ask that question one more time…

Tiger Woods, arguably one of the top two of all time, has won the Masters five times in his illustrious career.Although Woods has struggled with injuries in recent years, he remains a force to be reckoned with and could be a contender in this year’s tournament, or he could miss the cut. Which one will it be? With his experience and knowledge of the Augusta National Golf Club, Woods is a player to watch out for.

Another player to keep an eye on this year is Rory McIlroy, who is looking to complete his career Grand Slam by winning the Masters. McIlroy has come close to winning the tournament in the past, finishing in the top ten in each of the last six years. With his skill and determination, McIlroy is a definite threat to win this year’s tournament.

Phil Mickelson, a three-time Masters champion, is another player to watch out for this year. Although he is now in his fifties, Mickelson has shown that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level. With his experience and knowledge of the Augusta National Golf Club, Mickelson is a dark horse who could surprise everyone and win his fourth green jacket.

LIV Golf players will be in action. Will there be any tension between Liv and PGA TOUR players? Will Liv golf players be in contention, or perhaps even win the event. That would be quite interesting to say the least.

Masters Augusta

The Course

As always, the Augusta National Golf Club has undergone some changes in preparation for this year’s tournament. One of the most significant changes is the lengthening of the par-5 13th hole, which now measures 585 yards. This change will test the players’ accuracy and distance off the tee and could prove to be a decisive factor in the outcome of the tournament. Will anyone try to cut the corner now?

Also changed is the completely revamped par-3 course. Wednesday’s Par-3 Tournament will be the first time we get to see the changes in action.

Dark Horse

Every year, there is always a dark horse who surprises everyone by playing above expectations and contending for the green jacket. This year, that dark horse could be anyone, but players like Cameron Smith, who finished second in last year’s tournament, or Viktor Hovland, who has been playing exceptionally well in recent weeks, could be the ones to watch.

The Masters Tournament is always an exciting event for golf fans around the world, and this year’s tournament promises to be no exception. With so many talented players competing and changes to the course, the tournament is sure to provide plenty of drama and excitement for golf fans everywhere.

Big deal in the golf world! Tiger Woods is teeing it up on the PGA Tour! This should be interesting to watch. He’ll be playing the first to rounds with Justin Thomas and Rory McIlory. What a group. How will he do? It’s well known he’s not a fan of Riviera Country Club and has a hard time reading the greens. That’s one reason why he has traditionally avoided playing this gig.

Here’s a first look from a company I’ve yet to blog about, State and Liberty. I’m putting “The Allen” Heathered Charcoal Tech Polo in play for the first time.

About State and Liberty

State and Liberty is a men’s clothing company from Ann Arbor, Michigan that specializes in high-quality, versatile apparel that can be worn in a variety of settings. Their focus is on creating clothing that is both stylish and functional, using premium materials and expert craftsmanship.

The Allen – Retail $78

The Allen Heathered Charcoal Tech Polo is a perfect addition to any wardrobe. Made with a blend of polyester and spandex, it provides both comfort and a perfect fit. The heathered charcoal color gives it a modern, sleek look that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. The shirt also features a non-iron, moisture-wicking fabric that helps keep you cool and dry throughout the day. Overall, The Allen is a versatile and stylish piece that is perfect for any occasion, from the office to a night out on the town.

The fabric of this garment is super soft. I’m excited to try it out. First “testing” will be tomorrow. We’re snowed-in, so it won’t be on the course, but just a hang around the house and out on the town Saturday deployment.  Stay tuned for the full review after a few wear/wash cycles!

Review: Sunday Golf El Camino Walking Golf Bag

I’ve had the Sunday Golf El Camino Golf Bag in play for awhile now. I really dig the concept of Sunday golf bags, which typically are very small, light, and hold less clubs than a standard bag.

Are 14 clubs really necessary?

Let me tell you a little story.  For 578 long decades I was the president of my local men’s golf association.  In human years that’s seven.  I was in charge of arranging tournaments, scoring, activities and all that goes along with being the club president. Yeah I fielded calls at 3am from disgruntled players wondering why their birdie on #13 didn’t win a skin. It’s really fun to explain to some bonehead at 3am how an eagle beats a birdie. I digress.

One of the tournaments I put on every year was the “4-club” tournament. In that tournament each competitor could use any 4 clubs they wanted from their bag. I’d usually go 3W, 7i, PW, putter or something close to that. Over the years of putting on the 4-club tourney I noticed something very interesting. The scores didn’t change! What? Yes. The score players turned in with four clubs were the same average scores they shot with 14. It was then that I realized that having 14 clubs, including four wedges might not be as critical to my game as I thought.

Back to Sunday

So I’ve had a few Sunday bags in my years of golfing and blogging about golf. I love to walk and carry and a Sunday bag is the best option by far. Now let’s talk about the El Camino.

El Camino

The El Camino is well designed and thought out. Obviously not just slapped together by someone who doesn’t play golf.  I can super-easily fit eight clubs in the bag and I’ve squeezed 12 in there in a pinch. I prefer eight when using the El Camino. Driver, hybrid, a few irons, couple of wedges, putter.

Getting clubs out and putting them in is a breeze. There are four compartments for arranging the clubs.

The pockets on the El Camino are huge, especially considering the small footprint of the bag. I can easily fit in a bunch of extra balls, accessories, rain gear, a towel, some snacks, and even a couple of…. “frosty beverages.”

The stand portion of the bag is solid. It provides a great base and deploys and tucks away without a thought.  It’s natural to pick up the bag and just throw it over your shoulder without thinking about the stand.

Looks

Aesthetics are a big deal and the El Camino nails them.

The El Camino is super sharp looking. Clean lines, great color scheme (I dig grays).

Colors

The El Camino is available in eight colors, including a camo style. My color is Heather Grey.

Final Thoughts

Walking is no doubt the best way to experience golf. Walk the course with the El Camino.

While you’re at it, rethink your club strategy. You may be carrying too many clubs and not using your brain and creativity to create shots with the clubs you do have.

Great Gift Idea

Father’s Day, Christmas, Holidays, tournament prizes… All great reasons to pick up an El Camino! They’re around $200 on the Sunday Golf website.

First Look: Robert Graham Clubhouse Collection

Filed under: “How’d they know I needed a new wallet?”

In for review is a fun box with a couple of nice leather pieces from Robert Graham Clubhouse Collection. Inside is wallet with card guard RFID protection, and a fun tee holder with some very cool golf tees included.

The Box: (It’s all about the presentation!)

What’s Inside

The Wallet

My current wallet is falling apart! The timing of this product submission is perfecto! I’ll be putting the wallet into play immediately and posting a full review after I’ve beat it up for awhile.

Initial Impressions

I like the quality and the styling. The color scheme of the inner art is nice. This wallet is a little bigger than my previous, but I need more space to carry all the cash I win on the golf course.

BOOOM!

Stay tuned for my full review.  Until then I’d consider these items as potential Christmas (“Holiday” for you politically correct folks) gift items!
