Temperatures at the first tee time of the Phoenix Open today were 29 degrees, due to an arctic blast of air. That same blast caused the cancellation of yesterday’s Pro-Am.
The tournament will be delayed a minimum of two hours and is scheduled to start at 11:40am ET.
In wet and muddy conditions, players who play well are called “mudders.” Since Scottsdale is frozen, is there a player who plays well in the cold? An “icer” so to speak?

“Golf is an athletic sport. Why am I wearing dress shoes?” ~James Lepp, Kikkor Golf
One of the biggest buzzes around this year’s PGA Show was Kikkor (pronounced like “kicker”) Golf Footwear. Everyone was talking about how cool their new shoes are, and how fun their booth was. Founder James Lepp is one cool cat and I really enjoyed talking to him about his new company and checking out his products. Very good stuff.
As my schedule worked out, the Kikkor booth was the last one of the entire PGA show I visited. I wish I would have started the show there first. But if I had, I may have not gone to any other booths.
James has told me he’ll be sending in some samples for me to review when they arrive at the warehouse. I look forward to reviewing them so stay tuned for that.
HOG Stats
I was looking at my stats for January and apparently my tireless blogging about golf is paying off. Last month Hooked On Golf Blog topped 2,300,000 hits by over 130,000 unique visitors. That is HUGE for a little old golf blog.
TGS Stats
The Golf Space, my other golf site, was no slouch either. TGS is a golf social networking site, free to join. There are currently about 5,600 members. That site had about 985,000 hits by 56,000 unique visitors.
Totals
Combine my two golf sites and we are at 3.2 million hits by roughly 200,000 unique visitors for January. I’m well on my way to a free round of golf at Augusta National… right.
YouTube Golf Videos
Another media outlet I is the HOG/TGS YouTube channel. Currently the golf videos there have been viewed over 3.1 million times.
I’m busy nailing down sponsors for the 2011 HOG Space Fantasy Golf league. The season starts February 10th with the AT&T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach. Sign up now, it is free and this week is a designated practice round so you can figure out how to do it. This year there will be some great golf prizes so you don’t want to miss out.
I’m happy to announce the following confirmed sponsors who will be providing prizes to winners:
Bridgestone Golf
FootJoy
Frogger Golf
Tattoo Golf
Still need sponsors!
I still need sponsors for weekly and larger prizes for the segments. If you have a golf company, golf product or service you’d like to chip in don’t hesitate to contact me. In exchange, you’ll receive a TON of links and promotion within the fantasy pages and weekly updates. We are talking about hundreds of thousands of page views, if not millions.
