The last few rounds I’ve had here at home have been tough, and costly in bets lost! It seems I adjusted well to golfing in Scotland, and my game decided to stay there. I’ve had a hard time getting my game back to say the least, but today’s round at Wasatch Mountain State Park’s Mountain Course showed some positive signs.
Swinging too easy?
Every summer it seems that I go through this same lull. In fact, I may search my mid summer blog posts of years past and see when I made this same discovery. My swing seems to drift off into nowhere land and I can’t quite figure out why the contact is so bad and the driving distance is so low. Then it hits me that I’m not swinging hard enough! It happens every year it seems. A pal or two will tell me that my swing looks like it isn’t being finished, or it is decelerating. In my efforts to be relaxed in my swing, I may not be actually swinging hard or fast enough, and not whipping the stiff shafts on the clubs.
I’ll swing harder for my next round, a money game at one of my home courses Sunday. Hope it pays off…
I guess we won’t be seeing Tiger Woods and Steve Williams uncomfortably missing high fives anymore. Announced today via Tiger Woods’ web site:
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Stevie for all his help, but I think it’s time for a change. Stevie is an outstanding caddie and a friend and has been instrumental in many of my accomplishments. I wish him great success in the future.”
No replacement has been named. I’m sure there will be a flood of volunteers.
Steve Williams Shocked
Steve Williams was apparently a little surprised at this announcement, based on his statement today from his web site:
Following the completion of the AT&T National I am no longer caddying for Tiger after he informed me that he needed to make a change. After 13 years of loyal service needless to say this came as a shock. Given the circumstances of the past 18 months working through Tiger’s scandal, a new coach and with it a major swing change and Tiger battling through injuries I am very disappointed to end our very successful partnership at this time. I have had the opportunity to work of late for Australian Adam Scott and will now caddy for him on a permanent basis. Having started my caddying career with Australian great Peter Thompson and working for Greg Norman in the 80’s I am excited about the future working for another Australian.
As mentioned, Steve Williams will be working for Adam Scott full time now.
How satisfying is it to post this video of a great finish to my very special 2nd round on The Old Course in St. Andrews back on July 2nd! I’ll have a blog post coming about the amazing occurrence on the 17th Road Hole, but for now check out this video from the 18th, where I make a solid birdie.
My best friend Al is in the group and is responsible for the video and commentary. My good pal John Boyne from Caddie Golf Tours is on the bag. His great read was instrumental in making the putt! Topping it off, Andy Brown from HomeOfGolf.tv and his awesome bulldog SID are in the gallery. Brilliant!
This morning LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan announced that the Evian will be the LPGA’s 5th major championship. Below is a video interview from Golf Channel’s Morning Drive where Whan announces the change, and explains the why and how.
What do you think? I’m not a big follower of the LPGA, but I think it taints the records a bit and is perhaps a desperation move. I know this is done in the name of “progress” but it seems to me like adding the “major” title to this is more of an effort to bring in money and support outside of the USA, exactly where the LPGA needs to look. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that though. Business is business.

You can be sure to experience a long stream of random posts, comments and nuggets from my brilliant trip to St. Andrews over 4th of July weekend. Yes I know how to celebrate the United States’ Independence Day, golfing in Scotland.
Below is a fun video showing the short walk from our hotel/pub, the Pilmour, to the Old Course. As you will see, the walk is short, enjoyable, and ends up at the home of golf.
