It is very late and I’m mega-tired. So I can’t spend the time it is going to take to process the billions of photos I took today during my 36 hole marathon day of golf at Black Forest and Treetops Signature course here in Gaylord, Michigan. For now here are a couple of highlights.

This is an automated post, set to publish around the time I’ll be teeing off today at Black Forest Golf Club in Gaylord, Michigan. Black Forest is a Tom Doak designed track which opened clear back in 1992. The course was one of the first Doak designs to feature the rugged and retro bunker styles which are now prevalent on most new designs and redesigns. I’m looking forward to playing the courses here as they remind me of my tree-lined home tracks.
Naturally I’ll be shooting a ton of photos which I’ll post in a new gallery following the round, as well was doing a review of the course later down the road. Stay tuned for both.
If time allows, I’ll also be playing the par-3 course here at Treetops, affectionately known as “Threetops.” Same applies with photos and comments.

6:06AM Salt Lake International Airport
My alarm was set for 4:15AM, but I woke up at 3:55AM. Must have been a little excited about the next leg of the HOG World Tour. Today I’m traveling to Gaylord, Michigan to stay at the famous Treetops Resort.

I’ll be in Michigan through Thursday to play and review the following:
- Treetops Resort
- Black Forest Golf Club, a Tom Doak design. Doak is one of my favorites golf course architects.
- Treetops, Treetops Smith Course
- Premier Course, a Tom Fazio design
- Black Lake Golf Club, a Rees Jones design owned by the UAW in Onaway, Michigan
- Ostego Golf Club Tribute Course, a Robbins/Koch design
I’m waiting to board my flight which first stops in Chicago for a couple of hours, then it is off to Traverse City, Michigan. From there to Treetops. I’ll be checking in when I get to Chicago.

PGA.com has a really neat feature if you go to their home page and scroll down a bit. Under the video heading you’ll see “Free Lesson Friday.” Users can send in videos of their golf swing and a PGA professional will give them a quick, free lesson. My dad and I decided that sounded fun, so at the range a couple of weeks back we shot our videos. I’m happy to announce that my dad’s video made the cut and is featured as this week’s free lesson, given by 2009 PGA Teacher Of The Year. Click here or the photo below to watch the video.
Thanks to PGA.com. I think the solution my dad received will help him get rid of that broken left wrist and left arm chicken wing, and give him better extension and power. I’d bet his accuracy will improve as well.

Wango Tango! Ted Nugent’s Drummer Busted For Drunken Golf Cart Joy Ride
The first rock concert I ever saw was Ted Nugent. For a young kid, that was an eye opener. So cool when he jumped off the stack of speakers 20 feet high and shot a target across the audience with his bow and arrow. They can’t do that kind of stuff these days. That was the first time I ever saw someone (and smelled someone) smoking pot. Ah the memories…
Ted Nugent’s drummer Mick Brown, 55, was arrested for allegedly operating a golf cart under the influence of alcohol following a concert in Maine with Styx and REO Speedwagon.
Some great quotes from the arresting officers:
“Brown pretty much took a golf cart and had a couple of chicks hanging on the back. He was whooping it up, but the women were yelling for him to stop. One officer had to jump out of the way.”
Comments
A concert with Styx and REO Speedwagon? Wow. Talk about some 80’s cheese. No wonder he got drunk, just to deal with the other two bands. He probably stole the golf cart just to get away as quickly as possible.
