Well it has begun. It is only March 3rd, but I’ve received the first announcement about limited edition Masters golf gear. Cobra Golf’s new Masters green Bio Cell driver will be available on March 15th with a limited run of 2014 units.
I must admit, this green looks quite splendid. I want one.
For more information check out the Cobra Golf Limited Edition Green Bio Cell driver press release on the HOG sister site HogWire.biz. HogWire is where I post all the golf press releases I receive.
As you must know if you’ve frequented this golf blog I’m a big fan of southern Utah’s Sand Hollow Resort and their magnificent golf courses. I’ve shot hundreds of photos of the Sand Hollow Championship Course and posted reviews of the Championship Course and Links Course.
As a result of my writing, photography, and social media on Sand Hollow I met golf course architect Andy Staples. Since 2010 Andy and I have been talking about doing an interview, and I finally set it up! I used the new (to me at least) Google Plus “Hangouts On Air” feature. This is a cool live online video chat which then immediately produces a YouTube video of the event. This is exactly what I was looking for to pursue one of my goals for this golf blog in 2014, more interviews of interesting people in the golf industry.
Check out the interview with Andy Staples below and pay close attention to the comments regarding conservation and energy management, and how they greatly improve a golf course’s bottom line.
There are a couple of small issues with this video. First, my audio echoes. Not sure why. Fortunately Andy’s is great. Second, I mention a flyover video which I was trying to overlay while we were talking. Unfortunately it seems that google “intelligently” switches the video source to wherever the audio is coming from and it switched away from the flyover. So I posted the flyover below the interview here. Enjoy.

99% of my golf blog posts are related to golf in some way or another. This is one of the 1% I suppose. Golfers like me do travel without their sticks sometimes, albeit not very often.
This past weekend I spent four extremely painful days in Washington DC. I pulled my back out badly, so bad that my lovely bride had to put my shoes on for me a couple of days in a row. Not too dignified. It is quite hard to walk miles from one monument to the next when each step feels like Hannibal Lectar is cutting out part of your spinal column to make a gourmet pate out of it, but I did it.
Washington DC is such a great place to visit for the history, art, and science. The museums and monuments are all FREE of charge. It was a thrill to enter the National Gallery of Art and see paintings by my two favorite painters, Picasso and Van Gogh.
This week we checked out the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, World War II Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Capitol, Air and Space Museum. Also went to Arlington National Cemetery. How humbling that was. A visit to the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and watching the changing of the guard was so wonderful.

I had a lot of fun unboxing my new, custom fitted TaylorMade SpeedBlade Irons yesterday. Then I had more fun sitting there staring at them, on the couch, not moving, not at the golf course. Just as I unboxed them, a snowstorm with one inch wide snowflakes hit.
Weather permitting, I hope to play these beauties soon and see just how beneficial to my game they will be. As a two handicap these are not necessarily the perfect type of irons for me according to many. These are game improvement clubs. A two ‘capper would supposedly be best benefitted by a set of forged blades or muscle back irons. The SpeedBlades are not forged. Rather, they’re a cast combo cut muscle/cavity. But I’m a low single digit handicap because I putt lights out and the flatstick saves my ass all the time. My greens in regulation percentage is not good, nor is my short game.
If an iron set can make hitting greens easier and I can hit more of greens in regulation I don’t care what kind of clubs they are. I can let the flatstick score some birdies instead of saving pars all the time.
At least that’s what I’m hoping for.
Now if the snow would melt we could get this show on the road.
Until then, you can check out my TaylorMade SpeedBlade Iron photos.
