After day 2 of the Masters

I haven’t been posting as much as you’d think the biggest Masters freak on the planet would. Why? Because I’m soaking it all in. I’m computing it in the back of my brain, and I’m watching the Masters.org webcasts along with the TV broadcasts.

I haven’t gotten much sleep lately for various reasons so my brain is a bit fried too. Launching The Golf Space took it’s toll on me mentally and physically. Plus I’ve had a busy week in my “real” world that I live in outside of HOG.

Quick takes

Tiger has ’em right where he wants ’em. He never seems to start out hot at the Masters but come the weekend he’ll be right there.

Charles Coody, who was born in 1937, beat Charles Howell III by 10 shots today. So much for being young and a long ball hitter. I watched Howell on the Masters.org webcast take four swings to get out of the bunker on 11.

Duval’s exemptions are going to start running out. Though we’ve seen some flashes of a possible Duval return, I suspect he’ll disappear entirely in the next year or two.

There’s something interesting about the players on the leader board and I’m developing a new theory about The Masters and it’s winners. More to come…

All the stink about length and it’s not really that big of a factor. Sure there are some bombers on the leader board, but the Masters is about the greens. It’s about approach shots hitting the right quadrant of the green with the proper spin. It’s about putting most of all. Take the pressure and the tradition of the Masters and add in amazingly fast, heavily breaking greens and it’s pure entertainment.

I think Augusta National is getting exactly what they wanted from the course this year: two 67’s and a few rounds in the 60’s. No 65’s or anything crazy. There’s still scoring to be had out there but you have to play close to perfect to do it. That’s the idea.

Can Chad Cambell hold on to the lead for two more days? Na, I don’t think so.

Harvey Penick must be helping out Ben Crenshaw this week. Ben is -1 and tied for 10th. I’d love to see Ben finish very high or even win, but I think he’ll wear down.

Like I said, the Masters is about putting, which is why Sergio is tied for 30th. But hey, at least we’ll get to see the greatly anticipated green shoes.

Eat is loving the fact that Freddy is on the first page of the leader board. Or is he even aware of that? Perhaps he’s spending too much time posting pictures of Natalie Gulbis and Michelle Wie during FREAKING MASTERS WEEK.

How do I get this gig?

“NON-COMPETING MARKER” will be paired with Jim Furyk tomorrow morning at 10:40am.

The latest HOG poll is up and obviously it’s got to be Masters related.

With all the talk about Augusta Lengthening yet again what’s your take? You’ve seen it in action now. Is it really that big of a deal or is it just enough to bring back some excitement and tougher shots that we’ve been missing since that evil technology thing hit?

Vote now.

You’ve got to get over to masters.org and watch Live From Amen Corner!

I’m beginning to think The Masters will eventually have it’s own cable channel like the NY Knicks and the Chicago Cubs do.
