Mediocre performance leaves the USA behind after day one of the Ryder Cup

The USA Ryder Cup team put in a less than stellar performance today. I saw several big time USA players gag on shots. I watched Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk all knock some really terrible shots into water hazards.

So after Friday’s round of the Ryder Cup the USA is down 5-3. This is right about where I thought they’d be and on their way to another loss.

Can team USA suck it up and play well enough to beat a “team” of players? I put quotes around the word “team” because that is what the USA hasn’t been for several years.

Speaking of “team” players, Tiger Woods was a puzzling 7-11-2 going into this year’s Ryder Cup. How can a player SO dominant in stroke play have such a mediocre record in the Ryder Cup?

Are you confident enough in your game to bet $50,000 on it?

Saw an interesting ad a second ago during the Ryder Cup. Wynn Las Vegas (resort/casino) is putting on a golf event that anyone can enter and have a chance to win $2,000,000. That’s the largest purse in golf history.

It’s called The Ultimate Game at http://www.theultimategame.com.

All you have to do to compete is pony up the $50,000 entry fee and you can’t be someone who was fully exempt on the PGA Tour at any time.

So does anyone have an extra $50,000 they want to sponsor me with? I’ll give you a negotiable percentage of whatever I win. All I’d have to do to get my sponsor’s dough back is win matches on days one and two. Sounds easy enough.

By the way I’m a big Steve Wynn fan. I met him a few years ago. Any guy that can hire Tom Fazio and pay $56,000,000 to build his own private golf course (Shadow Creek) is cool in my book.

New poll: Most important factor in choosing a golf ball

The newest Hooked On Golf Blog poll is now up and running. What is the most important factor you consider when choosing a golf ball?

My answer is spin. I need a soft ball with plenty of spin. I’m plenty long (not a bomber though), so I don’t really need distance. Distance balls aggravate and flare up my golfer’s elbow and I can’t get them to stop when I’m chipping.

I’m now watching the Ryder Cup on my 13″ TV. My 32″ Sony that I’ve owned for at least 10 years has just died. What timing. I guess I’m going TV shopping today.

The latest Hooked On Golf Blog poll has closed now that the Ryder Cup has begun. The question asked who you thought would WIN the Ryder Cup. I think many voted for the team the WANTED to win and not who they thought WOULD win.

61% picked the USA. I want the USA but I voted for Europe because I thought that’s who would win.

Who will win this year’s Ryder Cup?

Team USA -> 61% (61 Votes) 61%

Team Europe -> 39% (39 Votes) 39%

Total Votes: 100
