Dunning GolfDunning

Quick, give me a word that rhymes with “Dunning.”  For me the word would be “stunning.”  Stunning is exactly what the few pieces of Dunning apparel I’ve seen are.  I first noticed the brand when I met my now buddy Kevin Foley of Web.com Tour fame.  He’ll be of PGA Tour fame if he holds his current position of #17 on the Web.com Tour money list.  I’m not sure if Kevin is endorsed by Dunning or just loves their threads.  Either way.  The first time I saw his threads I was sold.

Stretch Pique Multi Stripe Polo – Style

Naturally based on that I was excited to get my first Dunning apparel review opportunity.  When I unboxed the Stretch Pique Multi Stripe Polo (from this point on known as SPMSP), I was stunned.

My lovely lady and I both let out an “oooh” when we first saw it.  This is a beautiful polo.  It stands out in my massive golf wardrobe.   The photos on Dunning’s website don’t do this polo justice.  Mine here does a little better capturing the colors, but you really need to see it in person.

Materials

The SPMSP is made of 50% Technical polyester and 50% polyester.  I have no idea what the difference is between technical and regular polyester is.

I can tell you that the materials provide fantastic comfort.  In very hot and humid conditions, like I’ve been experiencing recently, this polo breathes very well and helps keep me dry.

Performance

Playing golf or simply working in the office while wearing this polo is a joy.  The comfort level combined with the flexibility and fit of the fabric is…. stunning.

Colors

Reef/Grey/Halo
Zephyr/Black/Grey
Kestral/Halo/Grey

Conclusion

At $95 this may not be a golf polo for everyone.  But I’d say the price is well worth it.  This polo is tops in all three of my top apparel rating categories: style, comfort, performance.

My 2013 PGA Championship Apparel Script

Here is yet another brilliant golf apparel script from yours truly, my 2013 PGA Championship rendition.  My recent gound-breaking release of my Masters apparel script and then my THE PLAYERS Championship apparel script sent golf PR companies scrambling.  My scripts blew theirs away…  This one is the best one yet.

dirtyclothes2013

In my 2013 PGA Championship apparel script (pictured above) I’ve brilliantly covered all the bases.  I have all apparel items nicely picked out.  They’ve been painstakingly chosen, matched and arranged.  Rather than using my own incredible Nikon camera and lens setup, I hired the city’s #1 photographer to do the shoot for me.  No small details ignored.

I decided that since I’m going to be watching the PGA Championship glued to my couch, I should simply have all the apparel script items there as well.  That way I can accessorize or change ensembles without missing a minute of the tournament.

Yes I realize that Puma, TaylorMade/Adidas, Nike Golf, Ashworth, Antigua, Dunning, and all the other golf apparel companies will likely steal my idea and use it for their future golf apparel scripts.  I’m sure we’ll see Tiger Woods, Rory McIlory, Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler and the rest sporting these same scripts in the next big golf event.   I’m fine with that.  Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Golf Book Review: Loopers: A Caddie’s Twenty-Year Golf Odyssey

Written by: Tony Korologos | Tuesday, August 6th, 2013
Categories: Golf BooksReviews

loopersI was enjoying the book Loopers: A Caddie’s Twenty-Year Golf Odyssey while doing a ton of golf travel in July.  I didn’t realize how much I was enjoying the book until I lost it.  On my return from the Hooked On Golf Blog World Tour stop in Los Cabos, Mexico, I thought I’d left the book on the plane.  I was at a crucial part of the book too, right when John Dunn, the world’s most traveled golf caddie gypsy, arrived in Bandon Dunes.  Big bummer.

I was going nuts, wanting to know how the book ended.  I decided that I’d have to contact the publisher who sent the book in for review to at least get a PDF version of the last couple chapters.  I even thought of contacting John Dunn directly, but I figured that would be tough because he was probably hitchhiking through Death Valley or someplace nutty like that, between two caddying gigs.

Then I found it.

I’d put the book in my backpack on the way back from Mehico, inside the laptop section, which is sort of hidden.  I was thrilled.  So I grabbed a glass of vino and headed for the back porch to finish it off.  Like the last caddie book I read by Oliver Horovitz, An American Caddie in St. Andrews, the book ended with me in tears.

Gypsy

When I do golf course reviews or golf travel articles, I tell the whole story.  But golf books, especially non-fiction titles like this one, I can’t.  I don’t want to give the story away.

In short, Loopers is the story of a John Dunn.  He has to be golf’s most traveled caddie gypsy.  Dunn has caddied all over the country the last 20+ years, even in Scotland.  Most of the time Dunn made his way around without having a car or in many instances a place to sleep.  What an intersting life.  I’d love to be in a situation where the only possession I have to worry about is my golf clubs.  No car payment.  No insurance.  No mortgage.  No obligations, except to the game of golf.

I’d bet John’s story continues even now.  I wonder where he is?

John, if you pass through Utah again look me up.  I have a spare bedroom.  You can crash here if you need to.

Conclusion

Loopers is a fascinating inside story about the life of a nomadic caddie.
