Heading to the Home of Golf AGAIN!

Wow I’m a little buggered.  Tearful goodbyes with the lovely lass and the wee baby Seve this morning.

Greetings from the lounge in the Salt Lake City International Airport.  I’m awaiting my flight to Philadelphia, the first leg of two in my trip to Scotland.  I’m pretty jacked up right now, not from the XXL latte but from pure golf adrenaline.  In about 16 hours I’ll be landing in Glasgow with my best friend, and another 2.5 hours from then arriving in St. Andrews.  HOPEFULLY a few hours after that we’ll be teeing off on the Old Course.

Stay tuned all this week for photos and updates from the Home of Golf.

Golf Equipment Review: Sun Mountain Micro Cart Sport – 4 Wheel Golf Push Cart

Sun Mountain Micro-Cart Sport

Four-wheeling it, literally. Click to zoom…

Ever been to Missoula, Montana?  It is a nice, quiet place with great wilderness and fresh air.  I think that fresh air is very beneficial to the genius designers at Sun Mountain, because they come up with some of the most fabulous golf gear!  Case in point is the Micro Cart Sport, four wheel golf push cart.  Let’s take a detailed look.

Micro Cart Sport Overview

The Micro Cart Sport is a four wheeled golf push cart.  Funny, I accidentally typed “posh” cart in the previous sentence.  That’s what it is, posh: elegant, chic, stylish, swell, swanky, upper class.

The “micro” part of the name must come from the size of the unit when it is folded up for storage in the car trunk or garage.  The folded dimensions are a wee 24.5″ X 16″ X 12″.

Having a cart like this for me is great.  I have a bad back but I want to walk the course.  I can easily push this cart around and enjoy one of the best (or worst depending on how I’m playing) walks there is, golf.

Features

The Micro cart is loaded with features.  Here’s a bullet list:

  • 4 wheel design for stability and easy pushing
  • Folds to a 24.5″ X 16″ X 12″ package
  • Folds and unfolds in less than five seconds
  • Included umbrella holder keeps player and clubs dry
  • Sporty colors
  • Adjustable handle for players of varying height
  • Strong magnetic scorecard holder
  • Large valuables holder with clear frosted plastic.  See your golf GPS or phone through the plastic without opening lid
  • Extendable front axle to accommodate large golf bags
  • Micro-Paq storage area
  • Hand brake on handle

Video

This video below is from my review of the Sun Mountain Micro Cart (not the sport version).  This shows the basics of how easy it is to fold up and unfold.  The action is the same with both models.

Colors

There are four color variations: Lime, yellow, pink, red.  I chose red (pictured) for my Utah Utes.

On The Course

I’m thrilled with my Sun Mountain Micro Cart.  It pushes easily, even when I have about 100+ ounces of water and sports drinks to weather the 100+ degree temperatures of summers here at home.

The unit folds to such a small size I actually thought I’d lost it in my van.  It was in front of the seat.  They say the mind is the first thing to go.

The Micro-Paq storage area is great.  It holds drinks, golf balls, apparel items and all the cash I win from my opponents.

Critiques

I have no critiques because this push cart is 100% awesome.

Conclusion

If you saw how many push carts I have in my garage you’d think you were in the cart barn of a golf clubhouse.  I have many.  The Sun Mountain Micro Cart Sport is THE best four wheel golf push cart on this planet and might be the best on other planets too, but since I haven’t been to any other planets I can’t really say…

One Week From Today I’ll Be Golfing In St. Andrews, Scotland

St. Andrews, Scotland Golf

My good friend and caddie John Boyne of Caddie Golf Tours (left) and me on the Old Course, 2011

I’d like to apologize in advance to any friends, colleagues, or family for my behavior this week.  I’m a bit preoccupied.  I can already tell you my focus is going to be very weak, due to the fact that I’ll be returning to one of my favorite places in the world, the Home of Golf.  Yes, one week from today, from right now, I’ll be teeing off on the Old Course with my best pal in the world.

The HOG World Tour returns to St. Andrews for an even more lengthy stay than last time, two years ago.  I’ll be in the Auld Grey Toon (old gray town) for over six fantastic days of golf on the Old Course, Kingsbarns, Carnoustie, the Torrance Course, Castle Course and several others.

A golf vacation to St. Andrews is the trip of a lifetime and I’m doing it for a second time.  I can sure as hell tell you it won’t be the last.  I’m thinking every two years.  If I win the lottery or come into a large amount of extra dough, I may just go there every year.  Why not move there, in the summers at least?  I digress.

If you haven’t been to St. Andrews you should really make the effort to plan it and go.  The town exudes personality, mostly golf centric.  The history, the people, and the golf are all “brilliant” as my friends the Scots say.

Just don’t ask me about the food…
